The one they sent me originally was a medium but it really did weigh sod all when I picked it up, having a fruit bowl sized head my XL will obviously be a bit heavier but it's still going to be a big improvement over my Shark.

To properly service the brakes you need to take the calipers off, clean up the pistons, replace the dust and piston seals then put them back on and fill with fresh fluid.

If you don't even fancy bleeding them then it may be best left to someone else.

I'll just take them off and give them a good clean then, braking power on my TA is really rather poor so guessing they'll be full of crap!

Got an oil and filter change planned for next week and then it's Alps time on Friday, can't wait!

That's what I have to do on my CB400, it's not a hard job tbh.

One caliper off, pads and pins out. 19mm spanner in between the pistons, pump them all the way out until the hit the spanner. Soapy water and a toothbrush, give them a good scrub on the inside of the caliper, on the pistons etc. A squirt of brake cleaner gets rid of any water/soap. Push the pistons back in, repeat the scrubbing with the toothbrush and another spray of brake cleaner to get rid of any water. Scrape any brake dust off the pads (in the grooves) and spray with brake cleaner. Re-fit and repeat the other side.

You leave the other caliper on so the pistons don't pop out when you're pumping out the other caliper's pistons.

Doing this means my lever goes from around 1-2" of free travel before any braking (with the pistons retracting back in after the lever's released) to nice, progressive braking from 10mm of travel.

Urgh, cleaned my front calipers out, they weren't as bad as I thought. However, I've got a stuck piston on the left side. How much would a garage likely charge to sort them out, bleed, replace seals etc.?

Some guy followed me off the main road showing me to pullover, no blue lights. I carried on for a bit and he just turned into a different street... really weird. It was a massive family car.

I didn't stop for obvious reasons, but it was the first time I came across something like this. I've heard of people trying to impose being police, I think he got angry I filtered past him at lights? Idk... I heard someone shouting after I filtered past. He gave up following me instantly and turned into a side road...

I once overtook somebody in the middle of the night on a 40mph and they followed very close behind me at 80mph further down the road.. Got to a roundabout taking a long time to slow down because I actually thought they might go into the back of me, came off roundabout and just went 25, after a minute or so they stopped, did a three point turn and went back. Very odd.

Somebody once shouted at me after skipping a huge line of traffic 'how's it fair you get to go first', I replied 'Life's not fair darling!' and carried on.

Similar situation to mine than, he flashed his main beam. Even if he was a police guy after hours, in a private vehicle off duty he can't really do anything surely? Otherwise he would have overtook me as I was doing 18-20mph as he was up my arse... He was doign 60mph+ in a 40 before he got hold up by someone who was turning left.

Probably just buttblasted you passed him. Some people have a weird hatred of bikes.

In other news, waiting for my insurance payout.

What happened?

About a month ago now a car pulled out and I hit them at low speed but the SV has been written off. I've put a deposit on an Aprilia Tuono because I really really wanted it but unless I get the money by tomorrow I'll have to wait until the week after because the bloke goes on holiday next week.

We've agreed on the figure but now waiting for payment team to ring me which should have happened today. So irritating how long this all takes, if I didn't have a car I'd be a bit screwed.

I remember the original post about it, that sucks... my mate got his fairly quickly. I guess he was one of the lucky people to get his money back within a month or two...

BTW Where's wazza300 ???

He's not logged on since the end of last month and he did mention he was suffering with some health problems I hope he's alright! I know a couple of people on here have ridden with him hopefully they'll have some contact with him off the forums.

I rode with him once years ago but I have no way of getting in touch with him.

Hopefully he's just on holiday or something, not like him to be so quiet though!

Just looked at my service manual, turns out my 'stuck' piston in my front left caliper (middle piston of 3) is fed via my rear brake pedal...
