The GTX 1080 was only a stop gap for me...

Here's the funny thing. This time last year, most of the Nvidia cards (including yhe then recently release 980ti) had promotions where they included Steam keys. So far this gen... there have been no promotions in sight. Maybe the Batman Arkham Knight promotion burned NV so bad that they won't do it till the games have released or something.

Regardless, the Titan XP (cos Titan X is a stupid reusing of the same name) is likelly to be the first true 4k card. Capable of 4k60 across almost all games with little need to reduce settings. The 1080 gets pretty damn close though.

well from a pure 4k point of view, 1080 might very well be a gap card. I will definitely consider a TI when the time comes if the price is right, from my point of view. Not paying for a Titan though as to me, that's not worth it.

The 980Ti was released because it was ready to release.
The titan X Pascal is being released because it is ready to release. The Titan X and 1080 are in very different market segments and don't compete with each other.

not so sure.

The impression I get is people buying x80 cards are buying for it to be the king at time of its release (likely owners of previous gen ti and titan cards), whilst the x70 series cards are the true mid range cards.

Then when the ti and titan cards are released the same buyers flock to those cards, nvidia knows how to play its customers.

yeah I got the assassins creed game free with my 970 I had the choice of that, a driving game and far cry 4.

I do feel so for 1080 owners they've never released a card like this so soon, 680 > Titan was 11 months
980 > Titan x 6 months
1080 > Titan X pascal 2 months.

I do however hope we can get a 1080 Ti before the end of the year hello santa clause :D

...I just didn't think the new Titan would be out so soon, maybe as soon as next month? Geez!
I sold my Titan X SC for the GTX 1080, assuming I would have it until at least Xmas. It looks like ebay will shortly be getting an almost new GTX 1080 GLH card.
Nvidia sure knows how to dig its claws into my wallet.

Why is this worthy of a thread?? I get these threads to announce purchases etc. Really no need.

can anyone really see any room for a 1080 Ti? if they were to cut the gp102 down anymore then would it be worthwile? only time will tell I suppose :)

No need. 1080 has its price and its perf. They have released it so soon as the 1080 is still a new and powerful card. I.e it will remain at current pricing with Ti £200 or so more.

Wouldn't surprise me seeing a Titan P next year with hbm2.

Personally I can't see a Ti being produced. It would have to be the same 12gb with 2-300 less cuda cores. Bit pointless on nvidias end.

Or if they do, don't expect them cheap ;).
