** OcUK HAS 21 CUSTOM GTX 1080 MODELS READY FOR PRE-ORDER !! **

Not completely decided ... I'll probably either take the basic strix or pay the extra for the MSI X. The main reason for me going Asus in the first place was direct warranty support through OCUK.

Not a fan of gigabyte (the offered alternative) or gainward/palit, been in the game long enough to have been burnt by both.

no you're thinking of the Z, the X has been shipping in volume for a month and critically is in stock right now

OCUK support is literally the only reason i didnt cancel my order on the 17th of June and order an "in stock" card

@ ToOo, you sticking with ASUS? I am going to move brand out of principle.

56 days is a ridiculious amount of time to be left hanging after all!

I was 37th in the queue and with more cancellations would probably have gotten one from the missing 33. Cancelled today out of principle after 2 months in case I was that unlucky to get in the next shipment. Super Jetstream on its way to me as we speak

Wow I do feel sorry for some people there's :) they've paid all then cash and by the looks of it they aren't going to be able to have the fastest card as the titan is just a few weeks away I think that's a low blow in itself tbh :/

I might just swap my MSI Gaming 980Ti for the EVGA Hybrid 980Ti. It's the lower noise and temps I want really. Probably cost me £100 - £150. 980Ti performance is good in all the games I play currently.

The EVGA 1080 Hybrid is £800 and not even available yet.

Ahhhh, i thought you meant the Z because you mentioned paying extra; aren't OCUK offering the MSI X as a direct swap?

I may have my wires crossed or it may have been an old offer?!

I was getting more and more worried that I was waiting so long for my Strix that we'd get close enough to Titan and 1080Ti launches that I'd start second guessing myself and worrying if maybe I should have cancelled and bought a cheap low powered low cost placeholder GPU to tide me over till the Big Pascals arrived. With the news that Titan is only 11 -v- 9 Tflops, no HBM2 memory and will cost double a 1080 and a 1080Ti somewhere in between if (they even do one this generation) Well thats no longer the case. With the released specs and pricing for Titan I know I will be perfectly happy that my 1080 hits the sweetspot in terms of price and performance and will have no desire to upgrade till Volta at the earliest.

The release of the new titan x doesn't change anything. It won't effect the price of the 1080 (they're only getting more expensive) nor the performance.

Hehehe :)

It must have been a blue week, I too am seriously considering switching my STRIX OC order, even though i am 12th in the queue.

Is there anyone out there with an ASUS unicorn that can tell me if it is worth waiting for?

Also, if i was to switch it would probably be for an MSI X, anyone got any real awesome / terrible experiences with it?

Sooooooo fed up with ASUS. Been wanting to play the new Doom for freakin ages but don't think my 670 will be man enough!

Cheers

I've had my unicorn since the 6th July after placing an order on 27th May with a competitor. Mine was a complete system build after being without a PC for over 6 years! Like many I got caught up in the frenzy of the 1080 launch and opted for the Strix OC as it had the best specs on paper (at launch at least)....I would never have foreseen this fiasco though! but after many grumbles I stood firm and the card arrived after 5-6 missed delivery dates. Its been smiles ever since - it runs a steady 2050mhz keeps cool and is quiet. This is all set to 'gaming' mode and not even 'OC' mode in the GPU tweak II program. All my games run 100fps+ Ultra on my Acer X34A {bought here}and I've yet to experience a crash. DOOM since the vulkan update - WoW my eyes cant keep up as the frames are insane even at 3440 x 1440 with Nightmare on. May be my luck was in on the silicon lottery and if I was still waiting...well I'm not sure if I'd wait not knowing if/when the ETA is from Asus. I've been glued on this forum since the start and its clear to me OCUK are a victim of their own success! and with so many back orders it must be a CS nightmare at the mo. I know at least 3 other people having had their OC Strix arrive in the first week of July like me after ordering 27/5 - none of whom ordered here. Best of luck for those still waiting - if you manage to get the original OC Strix and it works - you'll be in for a treat.

My brother had the fan controller on his EVGA SC 1080 stop after only a week so swapped to a Gamer X and its not missed a beat since. Its definitely a nice card and a worthy consideration. My second choice would have been a Zotac AMP Extreme due to the cooler design - but my seller never had it as an option.

Thank you for taking the time to reply Joker :D

Your ASUS PR has kept me in the waiting line a bit longer! If / when i finally break, i will go for the MSI X or Z i think. I respect your opinion even more seeings as the only other card that interests me is the Zotac as i don't think i will ever SLI GPUs.

I hope the unicorn continues to delivers quality frames for your enjoyment o7

Thanks again.

Why when the Titan is twice the price? Anybody that bothered can just buy another 1080 and be 30% faster than a titan

one for the fact if they were ever willing to spend so much on a titan they now have to sell off their 1080s at a loss, or if not they've just got their hands on a lovely new card just for it to be dethroned 8 weeks later. with sli problems I've been reading lately the game in question would have to support sli for it to be 30% faster than this Titan so at around the same cost I'd rather pick up a single Titan and when you come across a game that doesn't support sli at least you haven't got a £650 potato in your rig doing **** all :)

^ That's my reasoning at the minute. Recently SLI support has be a big pain in the ass. I've ran it for the past few years but testing my patience currently for sure. Would rather just run a single powerful GPU and know im getting the best perf possible.

I'll likely sell my 1080's for a single TXP. That will last me until next gen Titan/Ti equivalent for sure.

With regards to losses it's unlikely. I bet even when the TXP gets launched people are still waiting for 1080 stock. Which is very sad indeed. It won't drive pricing down as it will be in a bracket of its own.

It's already happening in MM

1080 stagnant sales and offers of 530 for evga

People are not stupid...you will lose on 1080 resale fact.
