A week passed, an update would be nice on this.

I cannot believe that Asus couldn't even ship 100 cards in 2 months. Absolute joke. I would swap to something with the same performance at this point but I will not pay an extra 60-80 quid just because Asus f'ed up... This whole situation is extremely frustrating.

I bought the OC version however putting the card in OC mode which sets the boost clock to 1936 MHz, as advertised, results in a crash.

Every card boosts over its set boost clock due to GPU Boost but because it boosts over the stated clocks OCUK say they cannot support it.

I am now left with a card that I cannot run at the stated 1936 MHz boost clock with OCUK trying to wash their hands of any responsibility.

Just a heads up for anyone looking at the OC version.

From my understanding the card is simply crashing at it's boost clock, sounds like a fault to me? Drop a thread in the customer service section, I'll see what I can for you.

You can’t turn off GPU Boost afaik without flashing to a custom vbios.

If the card comes with a Bio's that the card is not stable using surely it's not fit for sale as the model it's sold as, GPU boost is designed to up it when possible but if it's not recognising the need to stop boosting before crashing something is wrong.

The deafening silence from OCUK is mostly because they dont have any information, Asus have clearly been feeding them complete missinformation over the past few weeks which is why we've had so many broken commitments.

Just cancelled my preorder after 57 days and for my patience i'll have to pay an extra £80 for my backup card of preference. Feeling pretty sore right now.. lesson learnt i guess.

OCUK have now said they will refund me but refuse to replace my card.

They still claim the card is not faulty because GPU Boost will push the card over 1936 MHz despite the boost clock being set at 1898 MHz and not being in OC mode.

When I questioned the technician about the boost clock not actually being set at 1936 MHz or the card being in OC mode I received this reply:

“I fully understand the situation you are having, you mention putting the card in OC mode, this means "OverClock", were you aware that the card will run at boost without you having to switch any modes on or use any software, I feel you dont understand how the GPU works.”

Obviously the card is intended to run in OC mode with the boost clock set at 1936 MHz and then have GPU Boost 3.0 overlock the card more based off load, tdp, temps and voltage.

All in all, I’ve experienced abysmal customer service and had to deal with a shocking technical department. I’ll probably have to accept the refund as they are only obligated to do this but as the cards have now increased in price I’ll have to fork out about an extra £200 and join the back of the queue for another card.

Sadly there does not appear much you can do. I was in a similar situation with another retailer with a hard drive a few years back. Think it was during some Asian flood when hard drive prices were through the roof and it would cost me double to buy a similar capacity drive. Because they offered me a full refund there was nothing I could do!

They actually wanted to only give me a partial refund due to having 10 months use out of it.

"Sir I am fully aware what "OC mode" does thanks. However the card is guaranteed to be able to operate at this frequency, which it fails to do. With this in mind I would respectfully request a replacement as a refund is not convenient"

If that fails, RMA direct to Asus.

That's total BS, if the card does NOT either A, run at the advertised clock speeds, that's false advertisement and you're fully entitled to a refund or replacement, or B, if the card isn't stable out the box with no manual overclocking involved then again you're fully entitled to a refund/replacement.

and then of course the first 6 months it's always upto the retailer to prove the fault wasn't there when the customer bought the item after 6 months the burden of proof falls on the customer. don't take any **** of CS and demand a replacement. Let us all know how you get on, they're only offering a refund because they know if they sent you a replacement they're losing out on £££ from that card they give you... not acceptable.

Send them this link - ask them to watch it, and then reply to you explaining why the card they sold you will not operate with 1 of the advertised features, "OC mode".

It sounds like all he is doing is enabling the OC mode in the asus software and nothing else, but it isnt stable.

That to me is a faulty product.

But surely these cards are overclocked by settings done in the bios by asus out of the box without needing to use any Overclocking software
And enabling OC mode in the software is going be adding an extra overclock on top of the OC asus has set in the bios

If you needed to use software to overclock it then that would make this GPU no different to buying just a NON OC version

But surely OC mode is designed to be used. All of the card reviews are done in OC mode, the manufacturers actually send the ĢPUs out to reviewers in OC mode.

This is a sick card imo, it doesn't reach the maximum quoted clock speeds; bit like VW installing firmware to create dodgy fuel efficiency figure's, and that was deemed illegal.

If you needed to use software to overclock it then that would make this GPU no different to buying just a NON OC version

The card out of its box will be in its default profile known as “Gaming mode” with a boost clock set at 1898 MHz.

In order to enable the “OC mode” profile which sets the boost clock at 1936 MHz and increases the power target to 110% you need the Asus GPU Tweak II software.

I'm disgusted by this and expect to see an OCUK representative explain exactly why this is being spouted.

As someone waiting forever for a Strix OC, I can tell you now that you will have me drive over to your store and scream the god damn building down if you try and pull this ****. I've grown to expect so much more from OCUK and this is a very chilling blow to that confidence. It particularly hits a nerve when we're waiting months for these cards that may not even be granted an RMA if they aren't running at the correct speeds.

Not sold as advertised and a refund is insulting given the price hikes. I am so disgusted with this customer service. Are we really going back to the dark days again? I certainly won't pre-order such an expensive card from them ever again if I can't even trust that an RMA will be honored if it isn't clocking correctly. Quite frankly, if "Overclockers" can't understand what the OC mode does and what advertised clocks are, I'm not sure they are worthy of their name.

My god I am fuming now. Time to go have a cup of tea.

These cards are advertised and reviewed(this was a minor scandal only a month ago ) with the so called OC mode,if it they aren't stable at these speeds the marketing/specs are dishonest.Your right to be fuming Imo

Gibbo explained the difference in the pre-order thread a few days ago, maybe a week.

The big difference here is the base clock speed - the speed that the card will always run as a minimum. It's significantly higher and that is what causes the issues. It might be possible that a lot of the cards can't actually maintain that speed under full load.
