i5 with 1080 or i7 with 1070?

Thanks Cleeecooo watched it.
What if id never seen or played on a Gsync monitor though?
im assuming 60fps would be perfectly fine for say.GTA V Witcher 3, Fallout 4?
I can get that fast first person shooters would benefit but other game genres?
Thanks for the video link, and advice pal.

It benefits most games regardless of genre. I couldn't personally go back to 60hz coming from 144hz and gsync now as the tearing and input lag with vsync on breaks immersion plus I'd miss the higher framerate. I would agree with it being expensive, and if you can maintain 60fps at all times not groundbreaking, but it's certainly not a gimmick. I think you'd have to be partially sighted to not notice the difference within seconds and especially if your framerate is 45-75fps on both types of monitor.

60fps is perfectly fine for those games.

However for a game such as Witcher 3, playing @1440p with a GTX1070 will often see the framerate dropping below 60fps if the video settings are set to fairly high levels. I like to keep games running at 60fps with V-Sync enabled in order to keep movement in the game looking smooth. A GTX1080 will probably reduce the amount of time that the game drops below 60fps, but unless video settings are reduced to some degree, the drops are going to be fairly frequent. Less demanding games may stay above 60fps most of the time, even with high quality settings. That's where G-Sync comes in. Any drops below 60fps are not really noticed, unless they are really big drops (down to 40fps or less). Having G-Sync means that you can afford to keep video settings higher without having to experience the "stutter" when the framerate dips below 60fps.

I completely agree with all that's been said. For teh games OP mentioned, holding a steady 60 would be fine. Sure, it'd look nicer with 120 FPS, or even 90, but it takes a significant investment in hardware to run that - I'd recommend turning the settings down instead, unless you have the money!

For the record, I'm pretty happy with about 18 FPS in my flight simming, so it really depends on the game you want to paly, FPS on one end and X-Plane on teh other :p

Thanks a bunch to all,its certainly given me something to think about.
I think the GTX 1070 will be my 1st purchase. Then i reckon i could get a fairly decent price for my U2715H, and put the difference to a 27" Gsync. then lastly a i7 4790K.
Bloody expensive int it this computer lark :D

Massive thanks to everyone again for your advice.
Its been very informative and helpful

Now that sounds like a sensible plan !

And yes, it can be expensive !

PS. The CPU upgrade would bring the least improvement to most games.

I've always gone OCUK for my items,I only live a few minutes away. I actually picked up some ram and a Sata cable yesterday. Maybe this is better discussed in another thread I dunno but...unless they can price match me there's no way I am paying an extra 30,40 quid even more for some cards more than their competitors. I love Ocuk the staff are great but I'm not paying more than I have to..and the price of their non ref cooler 1070,s and 1080,s are a bit steep at the moment.

Cheers Cleeecooo, I actually did post,it was the 8th of this month to be exact I got this reply ..
"Yes we can look into pricing matching here however we are unable to move on pricing of any custom cooler 1070/1080 cards i'm afraid sorry about that"
That was from Stigbourne OCUK staff ,I may try again tomorrow see if they've changed their stance a little, not holding out for any joy though mate.
