AMD Announces RX 470 and RX 460 cards

No 470 for you then.

Ahahaha. Is that a "We're going to be charging £190 for a 470" fighting talk?

I'm not buying over £150 either (for the 4GB).

It's $149 for the 4GB and $179 for the 8GB, so why would we pay more than £150/£180?

The exchange rate isn't that bad.

Also if the AIB 4GB 480s are £200, they just won't sell for more than £150.

This gen is ****** hopeless.

Oh and if the 460 is £150 and the 470 is £180, then *everyone* with £150 to spend will be MUCH, MUCH, MUCH better off buying 2nd hand.

As in, there will be NO point in buying a 460 or a 470, for 1080p gaming.

AMD need to change our cost then, I am not selling 470's at a loss for anyone. :)

My feelings are that AMD are trying to throw NVIDIA off the scent by giving partners an artificially higher price on 470.

My request to AMD is to have 460 from £99, 470 from £149 and 480 from £199, then OC models and variations can slot between.

Yeah those are the prices people like me would buy at. And that's a 1:1 £:$ conversion too, given the leaked prices are exactly that but in $.

There's just no way people are going to buy a 470 if it's only £15 cheaper than a 480.

And people are sick of not having a decent card at £150. If that's the price of a 460, it's an epic fail from AMD.

Not *everyone* wants to buy second hand though.

I don't have anywhere near the disposable incoming to spend on PC components any more, but if I was buying a graphics card that is going to have to last me 3 years or so and I have £150 to spend, then it's going to go on a new one that at least has a warranty, vs an already older and more likely to break used one (even if it performs better).

If you buy a 460 you're getting a card that's barely better than a 7850. Good value at £120-£150?

Don't make me laugh! You'd be insane not to get a cheap 380 or 290 for £100 instead. Insane.

I'm not really looking for an upgrade at present anyway - just keeping an eye on things as I usually do. If my budget was £150, and the 470 comes in at £170, then I would find the extra £20 - as you rightly say a 460 would make no sense.

If such a thing existed - mostly they are £125-£150 from what I can see, and if the 460 and 470s are disappointing/expensive, then I don't see them dropping any lower.

In fact, I got a 380 for £85. :P

Yup. So a 460 at, say, £130-£150 would just be plain awful.

And a 470 that's £15-£20 cheaper than a 480 isn't worth buying either.

It seems neither company is really, truthfully interested in "TAM", or budget-conscious gamers. Both want mega-bucks even for their lowest-tier cards this gen.

Just want to strangle both the CEOs :p

I can't blame them for that, I'd do the same thing in their place. If people wouldn't be so scared of buying 2nd-hand they'd have some cracking deals available, but as it is, they gotta pay for their peace of mind.

Yes and the Nvidia 1080 founders met its MSRP but that doesn't mean that it isn't expensive for what it is. The point here is that the MSRP's are too high in the first place. :)

The leaked MSRP are $99 for the 460 and $149 for the 470.

That's reasonable.

What Gibbo is saying is that a 470 will be > £150, by a significant amount.

So somehow a $149 card is going to become a £170-£190 card in the UK.

Either that or the leaked MSRPs are waaay underestimated.

Ah I hadn't seen the leaked MSRP's.

$99 and $149 does sound quite reasonable, a agree.

Photo's are great but this 400 series is turning into yet another mess with a lack of decent models available while Nvidia churn them out.

LOL :p

All I see is a trickle of cards from Nvidia AIB partners and lots of people who have patiently waited (Some over three months and counting) for their card and getting more than a bit annoyed about it, and rightly so.

AMD said low/mid tier cards available in summer (or more accurately, before the back to school period)......they are bang on IMHO. The only hiccup on this launch has been the power consumption issue which was fixed rapidly with a driver release.

:)

I think Videocardz said that it's $179 for the 4GB 470. That should work out to about £165, which still leaves a reasonable gap to the 4GB 480. Any more than that then it's a pointless card, as it's more cut down than the 380 was to the 380X (slower memory and clock speed), and the relative gap in performance is probably going to be a bit bigger.

That would make the 8GB 470 the same price as the 4GB 480.

Whilst not impossible, that doesn't seem likely.

By far the majority of (regurgitated?) rumours are $149/$179.

Has the 8GB version been confirmed though? AMD's slides the other day had it as 4GB-only.

That seems odd. Surely they would have to be ~£150 otherwise why would you not just get a 4gb 480?
