970 3.5GB 'Ramgate' - NVIDIA ordered to pay $30 to each owner

Small dent in the green destroyer, unfortunately the punishment is tiny.

I don't know. Didn't the 970 sell like crazy? Even reflected on Steams hardware survey too. $30 dollars for a majority of 970 owners can add up quite a bit. Not saying its going to break em lol but still a hefty amount to pay out and i wouldn't be surprised if they have to pay a fine too.

BS Of course Nvidia knew exactly what they are doing - they again got caught; they no regard for their customers at all. They do it time after time; yet people still defend them.

The list is becoming a mile long

it's not about defending them.

I wasn't even aware this was an issue at all until I saw it on these forums.

All I said was that I have a MSI 970 and it's a great card. Ran it at 1440p, not a single issue. Ok, so let's say it has 3.5 gb instead of 4. That hasn't actually affected me at all. I would have still bought the card even if it said 3.5 gb on the box. That's because of the extensive research I did before buying it, I knew it will be great for what I needed and it was. I did a bit of reading since then and it looks it does have 4 gb, but 0.5 is used for something else. I don't quite get what the big deal is tbh.

If I had seen something that affected me directly, like crazy temperatures, crazy power draws, inability to run a game which clearly says on the box 4 gb then I would have noticed and said something. Hasn't happened though and thus it went unnoticed.

So the card has 4 gb but it uses it in a different way. Maybe it's not the ideal way, maybe Nvidia tried something different with this. To go from here to say that Nvidia lied is a huge jump as the card actually has 4 gb. I am not one for stupid defences but I don't see where the lie is.

I can't help but notice who is the most vocal about this, completely unsurprising :)

Also, sorry to burst a bubble for some, but 970 IS a great card. Take from this what you want but if you think I am defending Nvidia for no reason you might want to think again.

So you would never take free money, Slayer? Sure, and pigs fly.

at the end of the day if the memory arrangement affected the performance of the card then people were entitled to complain. Most who did returned their cards i believe. so meh. for the rest of us, and I genuinely mean this, it has not affected us yet. I will say this though: You cant say we only got 3.5gb and then go on to talk about the other usage of 500mb. either the card has 4gb or it doesnt; Make your mind up.

At any rate, I didnt bring the memory configuration up, I specifically spoke about the number of ROPs so please dont try to regurgitate that argument with me again.

I've read some of the case statement https://www.truthinadvertising.org/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/Roushion-v-Nvidia-cmpt.pdf

and this I guess is the most important point in terms of nailing nvidia to the wall:
25. Prior to the sale of the GTX 970, Defendants distributed advance copies of the graphics card to reviewers and trade publications, as is customary in the industry. Accompanying the sample graphics card was a “GTX 970 Reviewer’s Guide,” which misleadingly states that the
GTX 970 has a 2 MB L2 cache (i.e., 2,048 kilobytes of L2 cache) and 64 ROPs. In turn, these precise specifications were widely reported in the press.

Can't argue that, much. I mean i dont know anybody who buys a card purely based on those specs but they were wrong nonetheless.

Not really, I had issues with the 480 but if you want to criticise me, that's cool and knock yourself out. I am very amateurish and do it for fun and pay for everything I review. I work very long hours, have a family and also other hobbies. I try hard though :)

And yet you want people to take your "reviews" seriously?

I am LOL, also ROFL.

It's a drop in the ocean for them, hopefully though this will make them think twice about covering things up or being deceitful.

Maybe my wedding tackle is a bit sub par, but i add 4 units because I reckon i utilise it better than the missus ex that had a much bigger unit, all of a sudden i have a much bigger unit when measured from my Jen (fundament).

It's all good because she said her ex was **** in that department anyway.

Just as well I never bought one or my nethers may have shrunk.

People can take my reviews however they like. I am not invested in AMD or Nvidia and have given both good reviews. I don't take life too serious, so people shouldn't take my reviews serious. I show performance and babble on a bit and if I can't sleep, I pop on Gregster Reviews to help get me off :D

Glad you laughed though and I achieved something :p

My 970 performed brilliantly for the record. I was actually surprised at how well it performed. It also performed just as well after all this came out and as per usual, the most vocal in this thread are AMD owners... Go figure :o

Works both ways Go figure :o I'll kindly remind you next time you are very vocal in a amd thread.

Mmm baiting is strong with you green sky walker.

People will never take your reviews seriously, for the record you dont even own the hardware and software to benchmark games how the should be.

External capture and software is the only way.

Ok, going off your sctrutiny of Youtubers in the Pascal/Maxwell thread, it probably should be asked then if AMD's ever given you invites to events(was it the Shield Tv closed doors the one you went to?) or give aways or is it just Nv?
