AMD Announces RX 470 and RX 460 cards

I am looking at a 470 as I don't game much now but will not pay much over 150.

No 470 for you then.

AMD need to change our cost then, I am not selling 470's at a loss for anyone. :)

That seems odd. Surely they would have to be ~£150 otherwise why would you not just get a 4gb 480?

Just want to highlight here that queamin said "I won't pay *much over* £150". In other words, he would pay a little over £150, perhaps £160/£165.

Gibbo said "No 470 for you then."

This to me implies that not only will the 470 not be £150, it won't even be close. Ie, it's going to be £180/£185.

*facepalm*

Can this generation of GPUs get any worse?

(the above has literally just proven the RX 470 will be closer to £200)

Even the hope on the 4GB RX 480 is gone. We've got aftermarket 4GB models going over £200, in fact being roughly similar to reference 8GB models...

Oh well. At least this just means my 970 won't be an outdated piece of tech anytime soon, with this level of 'progression'.

The 470 at $150 + vat = £135 ,no way it should be on sale for £180 or more.

The $149 4GB is not a confirmed price tho. Rumour sites are saying $149 or $179 for the 4GB model, with more recent rumours tending towards the $179 figure.

I honestly can't see how they could price the 4GB that high. Unless they will change the 4GB 480, which has an *official* MSRP of $199.

Otherwise the 8GB 470 and the 4GB 480 will have the *same* MSRP. Can't see that happening, unless as others have said, the 8GB is not official, but purely an AIB vendor choice.

Ie, AMD have a 4GB 470 at $179, and a 4GB 480 at $199, and there is no *official* AMD 8GB 470.

I'm not personally interested in an 8GB 470. But I'm sure AIBs will make them, because people will look at that number and do the usual "8 > 4, must be better" decision making shenanigans.

I am starting to question if there is any value in a 460 or 470, just like I question the value of any other cards from Nvidia, like a 1050 if that ever happens. Games will demand 8gb of memory pretty soon, you'll need a card which is powerful enough to run stuff and no amount of memory is going to make up for the lack of power.

It's funny, before the 14/16nm cards were relased, and pricing was known, I was sure I wouldn't get any card with < 8GB vram.

Now that we actually have cards to buy, there's no way I'm wasting £30-£40 on an 8GB card over a 4GB one :p

But also I now don't intend to keep whatever I buy next for more than 12 months this time. The new cards that don't require selling a kidney/crack/working two jobs just aren't going to last more than 12 months.

I fear that next year a 470/480/1060 will be unable to run new games at 60FPS unless you drop the settings down to medium/low. Because these cards.... well, they just aren't very good. Not good enough to last.

Buying a 470 with 8GB makes as much sense as well done steak.

Not liking 8GB VRAM? That's fine, I can understand that but... hating on well-done steak!?! What madness is this?!?! Have you even eaten a properly cooked well-done steak? It tastes 40% more delicious than a medium-rare steak with only 30 minutes in the oven and a pre-sear to bring out the juices! Even in Monster Hunter, Well-Done steak is the superior steak as it grants more stamina.

Well-done steak master race!

I also prefer 4GB for cards 970 and below performance. Even though 4GB 480s are a letdown in terms of pricing now :c

I really was expecting the Radeon line up to be as follows:

£100ish RX460
£150-£160 RX470
£200 RX480 (4GB)
£230 RX480 (8GB)
£350 Vega (small)
£500 Vega (large)

Have to wait and see after a few months what happens with the pound and stock levels.

There's no such thing as a properly cooked well-done steak, by nature it's over cooked :p Blue/Rare 4eva

I'm still interested in the 460 but mostly as a HTPC card due to the h265 decode, otherwise I'm a bit underwhelmed so far by the new cards, either way too expensive or not a great upgrade :(

nice thank you, now the question is why is there a 460 with 2 gb of memory.

The 460 looks extremely weak compared to 470 and 480 which are relatively close and the price will probably reflect this.

There is a 2GB version likely to hit a specific price point e.g. the ~£100-£120 price point currently occupied by R7 360's and R7 370's.

Yes it's probably weak in this day and age, but it's still ideal for an occasional games machine / HTPC / etc. Newer memory compression technologies help to some degree, and these aren't aimed at anything more than 1080P (e.g. there are still a large chunk of people on the steam survey with 1400x900 or 1680x1050 or worse)
