Driver caught doing 154mph and only gets 56 day ban!

Lucky so and so, I got a 60 day ban for 102 mph :(

I am not sure what is specific about 56 days. From what I read back at the time, if the ban is 56 days or more then you have to submit your license (which I had to do). I don't know what other relevance's there may be.

That's it, they take your license whilst you are in court, shove on the ban/points and it makes its way back to you.

No need to re-apply etc..

Do you mean if it's less than 56 days? I know with 56 days I had to re-apply and pay for a new license at the end of the ban.

Yeah sorry, I just rounded up to 60 days, you are right 56+ needs a D27 sent off etc..

my 102mph was a 56 day ban, I always just described it as a 2 month ban, which was pretty much what it was :p

Autobahn style rules would never work over here. Most of the sections which are unrestricted autobahn are dead straight for miles and miles with very little in the way of bends/curves.

For the most part the M1 is nothing like it, let alone the M25.
Absolute nonsense.
A lot of the derestricted autobahn is two lanes, bumpy, twisty and a hell of fun to drive flat-out on.
However, they are widening a lot of the older 2-lane autobahns.
Conversely, there are lots and lots of 3-4 lane autobahn that have both fixed and variable limits ranging from 90-130km/h.

3-lane autobahn around Bremen at 3am: 100km/h.

You can't make blanket statements like that about the autobahn because Germany has over 8,000 miles of it.

I've never driven the autobahn, but I'd heard the standard of driving was much higher? ie lane discipline.
On the whole, yes, but it is getting worse. You still get middle-lane hogged and dawdlers as you would anywhere else, old codgers pulling out in front of you and confused foreigners.

However, the difference is that, on the whole, people are expecting very fast-moving traffic on the Autobahn. Doris in the middle lane of the M1, however, is not.

I declared instantly and it went up by about £90 for the year, next yearly premium was ever so slightly more (maybe £110) but I live in care bear land and am nearly a gizzlion years old :p

It's one thing driving fast on a German AutoBahn, it's quite another doing it on UK public roads

one word

Potholes!

and 154mph in a Seat....please!

Motorway potholes are filled in almost immediately due to the obvious safety issues on high speed roads.

What you don't think a modded Leon Cupra is capable of 154  most hot hatches have a top speed of around 150-155mph.

yes but is that speed safe in a Leon Cupra or any of them............because i'm not sure, after all it aint no Ferrari is it ?????

this totally depends on the tyres... most will have no issues sustaining that speed/heat.

As Gibbo said it depends on conditions etc and the more powerful/capable the car, the easier it will be.

I wouldn't dream of going even over 100MPH in my car, as it would just be uncomfortable/unsafe :p
