Black Lives Matter protest in London and Nottingham

what explain racism in the UK? stop and search, poverty and low literacy rates, lake of advancements or aspiration, granted the problems are not as bad as the US or SA but we still have big problems.

At every level of society black people are not being given the opportunities to advance in the same way as the white majority, that's just some of the top of my head.

This is too easy to take apart; just simple retorts:

- Stop and search because higher ratios/proportions of crime are committed by black males
- white people live in poverty too and interestingly in larger numbers
- the worst performing demographic at school is white males (lowest of all white class is traveller males)
- lack of aspiration.... Really? Aspiration is a choice... You aspire to be... Not like there is a gate locking them out
- they have every opportunity to achieve the same as everyone else. Cronyism is the bigger cause of super high end jobs going to friends and family... Not a systemic oppression or glass sealing

Let me explain my position to you.

I am a technical supervisor for a mechanical and electrical maintenance company, one of the largest in the world. This means that I get to explore all manner of buildings, from the little phone exchanges that BT own all the way up the buildings like the Shard, Gherkin, etc etc. I'm not talking about simply being in the lobby either, I have access to every single room in these buildings and go everywhere. The point I'm making is that I see it all. From the receptionists to the top dogs on the board of directors for firms that are in the FTSE 100.

There. Now that you know what I see on a daily basis, I can honestly, hand on heart, say that the opportunities are there for everyone. I see black, indian, muslim, male, female, every shape, colour, sex, you name it, in all levels of employment. These people have worked hard to get there.

That said, when you look at places like Angell Town, I can see why you'd think what you do. These people are so busy feeling sorry for themselves and blaming their misfortune on the cards that the world has dealt them that they are blind to the fact that they are living in a country where there are opportunities for everyone.

As for the stop and search stuff, operation trident, etc etc, all I will say is this: There's no smoke where there's no fire.

I started off as an uneducated idiot, a filthy forriner, earning peanuts delivering pizzas and now I manage a team of engineers looking after a half a billion pound building in one of the world's most influential cities.

So please, this whole "poor us" mentality needs to die. The only excuse for not making something of yourself in this country is laziness, bitterness, or disability.

If I had to list some of the hardships I've been through in life I can guarantee you it'd seriously put some perspective on this whole "racism" nonsense, and instead of blaming others and playing the victim card, I fought back and now do pretty damn well for myself.

And that right there is why this whole thing irritates me. This is simply the easy way out.

We get funny looks here and there. The one that stands out was a skin head that stared at her and I like he was about to murder us while we were on the tube one day. I started to confront him and my girlfriend pulled me off the train. We went to the next carriage and he just sat there staring at us. I would have taken the bate, but she wasn't happy about it.

More surprisingly, the way that other Indian people treat you is worse than anyone else. All sorts of old Indians looking at you like you've just stolen their purse. I'm assuming they're thinking your diluting their race. **** them.

These incidents aren't all that common, but I'd never have experienced any of them without her being there.

Anything that marks you out as different will net you similar experiences: being obese, being lanky, being very short, being ginger, having an oddly high-pitched voice.

Humans seem to have some natural preference for conformity, the same as seen in other social animals such as chimps. So we can probably reduce the intensity of this behaviour, but we're unlikely to eradicate it. And if being stared at by a skinhead is the worst you get, then I think that is tolerable.

Why skinhead? He mention getting the stare from Indians.

My best mates mum still gets grief off her family (some) for marrying a white man. 30yrs+ and she is still excluded from most family events.

Why is she disliked? Racist prejudice. Does she care? Not really, she made her choice for her not for her family.

You have just said exactly what I would like to write, unfortunately for me it's harder to put into words. Nail on the head right there!

Why do you assume that is down to racism? Do you think there is some racist conspiracy among teachers to inflate the grades of Asian kids above white kids but keep black kids down?

Give it 20/30 years. Guarantee in London most Senior positions will be taken up by Asian people. Or at least a hugely disproportional amount in their favour.

They are, in general, a different grade. Scary bright and great work ethic.

What will it be then? Asian privilege?

No i dont think its a conspiracy, and I dont its about black people not trying enough or not having the capacity or will to achieve so if it isnt racism what is it?

"Asian" is a very broad term.

Employment amongst Pakistani and Bangladeshi ethnic groups is much lower than amongst Indian and Chinese groups.

Maybe we should start one :D

Thing is I don't feel that black people are treated badly in this country are they? I get in America things have gotten bad but I don't think it really applies here right?

Welcome to the thread. I know I'm banging on a lot in this thread but I come from a country where racism is a real problem. I mean an actual, real, life affecting problem. The colour of your skins dictates your life, how well you're going to do, how far you're going to go, whether you have a job at all, hell, you may even be denied food or a roof over your head if you're the wrong colour. You can't go to the government because there are no facilities for that, regardless of skin colour. I can not paint a clear enough picture of this, it's an actual, genuine problem.

For these idiots, who can rely on the government to provide them with food, a roof over their head, an education, to start having a little whine about "racism" just blows my mind. These people need to be put in a country with real racism issues, they'll very quickly learn to appreciate what they have and the opportunities that are afforded to them.

REGARDLESS OF SKIN COLOUR.
