Black Lives Matter protest in London and Nottingham

Well it is the university holidays? Have to keep busy somehow :p. Admittedly, I used to do it by playing lots of World of Warcraft between the academic years.

I have explained already.

No, you haven't, that was the point. You've highlighted areas where there are differences then assumed racism is the reason for those differences. The flaw in this has already been illustrated and you've not been able to back up your claim.

Let me explain my position to you.

I am a technical supervisor for a mechanical and electrical maintenance company, one of the largest in the world. This means that I get to explore all manner of buildings, from the little phone exchanges that BT own all the way up the buildings like the Shard, Gherkin, etc etc. I'm not talking about simply being in the lobby either, I have access to every single room in these buildings and go everywhere. The point I'm making is that I see it all. From the receptionists to the top dogs on the board of directors for firms that are in the FTSE 100.

There. Now that you know what I see on a daily basis, I can honestly, hand on heart, say that the opportunities are there for everyone. I see black, indian, muslim, male, female, every shape, colour, sex, you name it, in all levels of employment. These people have worked hard to get there.

That said, when you look at places like Angell Town, I can see why you'd think what you do. These people are so busy feeling sorry for themselves and blaming their misfortune on the cards that the world has dealt them that they are blind to the fact that they are living in a country where there are opportunities for everyone.

As for the stop and search stuff, operation trident, etc etc, all I will say is this: There's no smoke where there's no fire.

I started off as an uneducated idiot, a filthy forriner, earning peanuts delivering pizzas and now I manage a team of engineers looking after a half a billion pound building in one of the world's most influential cities.

So please, this whole "poor us" mentality needs to die. The only excuse for not making something of yourself in this country is laziness, bitterness, or disability.

If I had to list some of the hardships I've been through in life I can guarantee you it'd seriously put some perspective on this whole "racism" nonsense, and instead of blaming others and playing the victim card, I fought back and now do pretty damn well for myself.

And that right there is why this whole thing irritates me. This is simply the easy way out.

Well done and well said. :)

Why is it that black lives only seem to matter to these imbeciles when something happens at the hands of a white person? Why do they not matter when it's blacks killing blacks which, after all, happens way, way, way more frequently.

Nothing about the Black Lives Matter protests has ever said otherwise. Your response is about as dumb as turning up at a protest cancer fundraiser and protesting "all cancers matter".

Not at all comparable. Prostate cancer charities are not claiming they are uniquely affected by cancer and demanding exceptional action is taken just for them. But yeah, if they blocked access to Heathrow I'd have nothing good to say about them either.

People have every right to protest. But I do question it's legitimacy when they need to cause disruption to get their message across.

Civil disobedience has a long history. I think the Police response was appropriate. There is no need to escalate the situation under these circumstances.

Problem is most people just want things given to them and if they have an excuse on hand(sex/race/creed/etc) it's much easier for them to cope claiming they would be king of the world if only they had X, Y or Z. Entitlement culture and lack of responsibility rule all.

Racism is around quite a bit in the UK esp in rural areas int he North. Mainly becuase there are so few none whites around.

I cring when I overhear some of the things said in pubs and the workplace.

Someone needs to tipex out the 'A CR' on that sign and hope a drone sees it :p

A crisis? I just missed my flight to Rhodes, this is a bloody disaster!

* I don't have a flight to Rhodes, this post was purely satirical. I also wasn't trying to imply that Rhodes is somehow more important than the other Greek Islands, all budget holiday locations matter y'all.

They did a bit about this on C4 news, and these people are frankly protestors without a cause.

First they tried to interview one of the girls lying on the road, and she refused to explain why she was protesting. Instead, the young, university student type women, burst out in laughter. Obviously not a care in the world. If you're protesting about black people being killed, you'd think it's not really a laughing matter.

Second they had a couple of people in the studio. One a member of Black Lives UK, the other one of those "student relations officer" types.

The latter, when asked what the objectives of this protest were, suggested that "We need to get black kids educated about banking and making more money. The economy. We need black people to learn the economy and get more money and power to make their voices heard."

The BLM rep simply suggested that "We need to get people's attention. So people are focused on black rights in this country." What black rights? Well, the right to stop people getting to airports to go on holiday, for one.

Seriously, I don't think they could have done more to hurt black issues than pulling this stunt, then going on TV to show the world that they don't actually know why they're protesting.

Bravo on this spectacular own goal.

In the states there are real issues, but this protest wasn't needed here. And served only to highlight the stupidity of some of the protesters.

But the guy from black lives uk this morning said it was all about the uk government killing black immigrants in detention centres......
