380X for a GTX 970?

^^So lots of bluster about what could it might happen in 12 months time.
Enjoy sitting around hoping what might happen!

So a lot of bluster from another forum member who hasn't had a GTX660 or a GTX960 and seen them beaten by equivalent AMD cards.

Plus it also shows you are another hardware enthusiast on a forum who upgrades often:

Tbh in 12 months time there'll be another Nvidia gpu in the mix and the 480 will be even further behind.

So,basically like all the other excuse makers, you don't seem to realise gamers tend to keep cards for more than 12 months - know loads who keep them for two to three years.

I tend to keep my cards for two to two and a half years.

So basically you have proven what I said before:

The same as my GTX960 against the R9 285/R9 380 and my GTX660 against the HD7870. Know we see where they are...

Oh and didn't people like you make the same noise about the GTX660TI and GTX760 against the HD7950BE and R9 280??

All silent now - all saying Nvidia will make async updates and DX12 updates and Vulkan updates.

Now all quiet and when the GTX1060 performance starts loosing performance in another 12 months or so,you will be all quiet, since the GTX2060 and the next best thing will be out.

So can you tell me when my GTX960 will get its async updates and Vulkan updates??

So,instead of your excuses please tell me why people like you made the same arguments, and yet where are all these nice DX12 and Vulkan updates for my GTX960?? Or maybe the much vaunted aync ones. Or even the update for ARK,when my mates "slower" R9 280 seemed to run it better than me or my mates GTX960 at Christmas(Nvidia sponsored titled).

No,utter silence.

Just another new "enthusiast" on a forum who has quietly ignored what has happened over the last 4 years.

At the rate it is going,my GTX960 is probably going to be one of the shortest lived cards I have had for years, unless I start avoiding games.

No,I must be imagining it.

I will yield to your obviously superior knowledge in this case!!

Haven't you learned your lesson about buying mid range nvidia cards by now? :D

Yeah,I thought I had got a good deal on mine now(not so sure now),but I feel even more sorry for those who paid nearer £175 to £200 for them.

My GTX660 at least held its own a bit longer, but honestly WTF with the GTX960??

Seriously, how can people hold a straight face after what we saw with the GTX660,GTX660TI,GTX760 and GTX960???

Yeah, maybe the GTX1060 will buck the trend but its Pascal(modified Maxwell) so I really am doubtful unless Nvidia do some DX12 Gameworks. It it were Volta,I might be more optimistic as that is meant to a new uarch but it isn't.

Was the 960 supposed to compete against the 280x or the 280?

R9 285/R9 380 and the R9 280. So faster than a R9 280 and trading blows with a R9 285:

However, look where the GTX660 and HD7870 are at. Even at that point the HD7870 was almost GTX660TI level.

The HD7950 non-BE is much faster at that point and the GTX660TI traded blows with it(or was faster,I can't remember),but the R9 280 had much higher clockspeeds.

I can't find a modern one with the 660ti. Only the 270/7870. It does not have numbers for the 7870 in all the games but has a performance summary for it at the end. Confusing. Anyway looks like a 7870 might even beat the 960 from an 18% defecit at the start. Its dam close anyway. Have to sorta guess cos they test dx11 hitman opengl doom but its 4% behind as they tested it now.

But yeah. Buy for today people!

I'm looking at the lower end of 1060's as I'm on a budget, so the ones at £229 are more suitable for me. can you guys please advise what one will be best to get, I'm currently eyeing up the Zotac 1060 Mini, that 5 year warranty is appealing also.

RTJ

or how would the OcUK GeForce GTX 1060 "Reference Design" be a good option, as i dont think i will be keeping for years and years, so the 5 year warranty isnt totally crucial.

RTJ

The mini cards with 1 fan are a bit noisy. Reference design vents out the back so worth a mention if you're using small form factor case.

6gig 1060 or the 8 gig 480 are both fine cards, go with whatever you are used to. AMD or Nvidia. The few extra frames per second between the cards isn't really worth anything in real life gaming scenarios.

thanks for the reply, the thing that makes me lean to the GTX is the OCing. apparently it Oc's very well compared to the 480?

Whilst the numbers you're dealing with are much larger, the performance gain isn't significantly more. Comparing the two MSI Gaming X cards both at TPU, the performance gain from overclocking on the 480 was 8.6% compared to 15.1% on the 1060.

Nothing astounding for either really.

Can't decide what to get myself . Just got to a 6500 could. What's a nice increase from a 270x 4gb card. I've got a 4k tv but don't currently game on my pc. But will be.

@Talon - for a 4k tv you'll need plenty power in a card...1080 or titan x pascal for proper 4k goodness

an increase from 270x would be a 470 or 480 if you wanted to stay with AMD

Depends on your budget. Best not hijack a thread though and make one for yourself :) .....forum etiquette

480 won't oc as well as a 1060 but will still be an immense 1080p card.

The 1060 will clock like mad but high clock rates aren't always everything...you can't SLI a 1060 but you can xfire a 480 later on.

Jesus, whats with the walls of text in this thread? I literally skipped all that.

1060 for me. I live in a box room at the minute so the less heat the better for me. My 280x is pants, 30 minutes gaming and my room is roasting. You can get a 1060 with a decent cooler for 230, whereas you're looking at 250 for the 480s without the blower style coolers.
