No Man's Sky - Procedural space game

I suppose it's more Sony's doing than Hello Games but what were they thinking on that pricing good lord, it's an indie studio making an indie game.

The amount of people I've seen on the net posting that £40 is too much and even at £30 they'd be willing to give it a go is incredible. This game would have been an amazing success story at £25-30 and I suspect a many more would have bought it too.

Sony know however that you can pretty much ask what you like once the hype reaches a certain level.

I'm not one usually to quibble on price when it comes to games but from what I've seen so far I wouldn't pay more than £20 tops - and that would be if they sorted the controls out which seem to be a bit hit and miss going by the videos I've watched.

It's an indie title with indie levels of polish, that's acceptable at the £20-25 price point but not really at the £40 price point. That's in the same territory as AAA titles (although that's direct from steam and most AAA titles can be had for less that £30) and they get absolutely panned when they aren't up to scratch (arkham knight, battlefield etc) so the gaming public are at least consistent.

General consensus so far has been it's a very good indie game but a pants AAA title.

Something I'll pick up in the Christmas sale no doubt but glad I didn't pre-order it.

Hopefully Deus Ex out this month isn't another disappointment.

Also, if I could have picked it up from a key site for a bit less I may have been tempted, but there were only a couple of other places selling it and they were also £40. I've noticed GMG now selling it following the launch but also at £40, don't think I've ever seen them sell a game at full steam price. So, Price fixing???

I think a much better business model for the game would have been to sell this part now for ~£10 - 20... and since the whole thing is single player anyway there's no danger fracturing the player-base by offering bits of DLC or bigger expansions down the road...

This could take the form of minor things like new ships, expansions to the resource tree or similar... up to more interesting prospects like tweaks to the algorithms that do the generation, perhaps weighting things differently (do you want a game where resources are much more scarce to make the survival aspect harder... or a game where there are a lot more hostile ships etc. for you to deal with since you enjoy the combat more?)

Is the 21:9 fix actually working for anyone? I've edited the FOV attribute in the TKGRAPHICSSETTINGS.MXML file but it doesn't seem to do anything? Everything is still stretched.

Can't say I'm overly surprised given that comment from Murray about not even having a 21:9 monitor in their offices, but I don't think it's asking much for a £40 game to support 21:9 properly! It's hardly an Overwatch 'competitive' argument!

Might be helpful.

Go to : C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\No Man's Sky\Binaries\SETTINGS

Then find the file "TKGRAPHICSSETTINGS.MXML" and open it.

You will then find the "GSync" option. It's "true" by default, change it to "false".

I'm personaly running NMS on a computer that doesn't even have the minimum config', i can tell you the FPS boost is absolutely amazing.

Seems to work for most people as well !

EDIT : I'm not the one who found the fix, i'm just spreading the information.

Is there like a language vendor/teacher in game or what... since there's like 400 words to learn.
You discover words from artifacts/old alien structures/aliens in stations/outposts/shelters etc, with some exploring planetside you quickly rack them up, think i've discovered about 15 in a few hours of play.
One world had the stubby round pillars dotted all over the shop racked up 5-6 in about 30minutes

Damn shame, really wanted to buy this game, I do love a bit of sandbox exploration, but the reviews and totalbiscuits performance review have put me off. :(

Going to at least wait for some patches before I consider again, or hold off till it goes on sale.

Dont let TB put you off. At least try it. It's been performing very well for me (as in 90 odd FPS), and many others.

Yeh that + setting game to borderless window and max fps seems to have fixed most of the hickups. Still gets a dip once in a while but at least it's playable.

Other then that game is ok i guess.

Yeah its performing well for me to since I applied the GSync change, only issue I have is its an absolutely sodding boring grind fest.

Try it :) you can always get a refund within 2 hours if there is a problem or you don't like it.

Running pretty well on my system. Minimal drops now and running between 70-100 frames 3440x1440 with single GTX 1080.

Off to go play a little more shortly.

I can't get 100% completion on any planet. I get to the final few species and it will say new species discovered, but then will not count it towards the total.

Did you upload all your discoveries?

I was able to 100% my starting planet, a handy tip is that when your looking through the binos species will have a red indicator to show if they are a subspecies which you havent seen before.

I had a few creatures which i was sure i had discovered before but they were juveniles and the adult counts as a different discovery.
