What have you done to your car today?

Put my daily EP3 up for sale :)

Guess I am just not used to seeing it on more modern cars. Would have thought 6-7 year old cars with such low mileage wouldn't have suffered too badly. With the money they are asking for these cars I want it to be immaculate. Im not really prepared to drop 20+k on one and then have it painted.

Took the Clio to Bedford for it's first track day since replacing the ST. Car performed really well and flawlessly all day so a lot more comfortable in it now, can't wait to get out in it again soon :D

Got a 3 quid EGR blanking plate fitted to my Fiesta Zetec S 1.6 TDCI to cure a dodgy EGR valve (that cost £200 to replace previously). Pleased to say it works great and the engine feel a bit more responsive too, only wish I'd done it sooner, so glad it doesn't have a DPF on it. :D

So, the other day during a generally disastrous trip to Halfords 15 miles away, my E46 330i engine light came on. It was driving fine though. If noticed that in the days running up to this, it was a little rough at idle.

Then it got really bad. Numerous fault codes, 12 in fact, all to do with the car running lean, misfiring on all cylinders etc, so I set about taking it apart, searching for a spilt vacuum hose or intake boot etc. Nothing. I sprayed an entire can of carb cleaner around the engine bay with the car running. No sign of a leak.

Got my brother in law round so I could swap a few sensors from his car to mine to see if that helped (his car is the same). Just as I was going to re-remove the MAF sensor from my car, I leant down for something, and out the corner of my eye, noticed that there oil filler cap was on wonky. This was letting in unmetered air, and causing it to go mental. Only wasted about 2 hours there. :o

To my credit, whilst googling fault codes and causes, I did think that I should check that, but straightaway forgot (after all, my car needs topping up every 500 miles or so, so leaving the filler cap on wonky was a potential cause). Oops.

Fitted the new rear drivers caliper. A lot easier than I thought it would be!

Found the cause of my slight brake grinding to be rust on the disk on the outer edge of the braking surface. Tempted to just sand it down to remove the rust to see if it stops the noise, and if so, get some new pads and discs when I have more monies later this year....

Finally ordered a rear tyre for the VX, been off the road for nearly 2 months... Who knows, might even get around to fitting it and the Mintex 1144s I've had for the best part of a year, and fitting the pro-alloy intake, and replacing fluids, oil filter, and drain gasket with the new ones I bought....

Noticed tonight when cleaning the car that there has been some sort of reaction on a couple of the wheels in areas where there must have been small chips on the paint, meaning the cleaner has got in under it.

Only some smallish black marks but I guess it'll get worse, good excuse to either refurb or bin the made of cheese Monza alloys if I've still got it after winter.

In other news I quickly cleaned the fiesta - the door shuts were actually black. No idea when my better half last done so much as take a hose to the thing

Did a few bits on the Celica. Zinc primed and painted the heat shield, just got to do the O2 sensor shield now. Also painted up my strut brace mounts as they had a little surface rust and also replaced my header tank breather pipes with silicone hose, looks a lot neater now.

Next stop is a custom air box for the air filter but I hate working with fiberglass!

:o

Popped into garage this morning only to book it in for tomorrow/Thurs as I need the car tonight. Said he'd just give it a once over to pre-warn me if anything major was going to need doing.. Had my bike rack on and everything so no wonder the plate was obscured! At least it's not going to cost me £££.

Not bad for an S reg though

Last night I completed an oil change, oil filter + air and pollen filters and spark plug replacement

I was thinking about the cam belt as well but will leave that to the local garage

Bought a chavvy Z4 and need to now start undoing all of the changes to return it to something presentable - It's shut away in the garage for now until I've at least got standard wheels and the film off the front and rear lights.
