**** The Official Samsung Galaxy S7/Edge Thread ****

Well the media server drain was back this morning so I tried killing chrome from the task screen and sure enough media server drops off the list, so at this stage it does indeed seem like chrome is the culprit.

I've decided to disable chrome and use the built in browser to see if that improves matters, apparently there's a chrome extension that will sync chrome shortcuts with Samsung's. Not ideal but if it does the trick, mind I can already see that even typing in here now is much smoother in the Samsung browser than chrome.

Well so far, no drain at all using Samsung browser.

I've installed the Samsung Sync chrome extension for windows chrome, and this allows me to sync my bookmarks and share open tabs between the devices.

Overall performance of the Samsung browser appears to be smoother / faster than Chrome.

A nice touch is being able to use fingerprints to sign onto web pages.

Think I'll stick with this for now.

I'll report back if the battery drain returns.

Well I've had my edge a week now.

Thing is a beast, but I have unfortunately had issues, mainly with software. I'm also witnessing mediserver drainage that I can't stop. I've had to reset the phone twice as for some reason it's got stuck on the app draw screen, could scroll and load apps, couldn't get back to my homepage though. And I've had to power on and off as fingerprint wouldn't work.

The edge side of things is weird, getting use to words going off side of screen etc, can sometimes make reading something iffy.

Battery is amazing and reason I made jump from my 6P, although if software issues carry on, I'll jump back again..

Has anybody had their gyroscope in the S7 fail? Mine did a couple of days ago. Had it just over 1 month. Need to send it to Vodafone repair centre :( Screen wont rotate and in the *#0*# menu all of the sensors are unresponsive (accelerometer, proximity, barometer, lights, gyroscope and HRM sensor) i've done a factory reset and checked the software is up to date.

I think I've heard of this happening before, so maybe it's a known issue?

How far over a month have you had it? I'd be telling them I want it swapping I think.

It was delivered on the 15th of July. I've been on google and can't find anything about this by anyone else. I took it to a store and spoke to their "Samsung rep" and he didn't have a clue and said it would need to be sent to the repair centre. I haven't sent it off yet as they didn't have any courtesy phones they could give me while its away. They said it could be away for up to 10 days being repaired.

Try not using Chrome if you are using it for the mediaserver drainage.

I have to say though, while I do quite like the S7E, had I had the chance to live with it for a while first before deciding, I'm not really sure I would keep it now:-

- Battery life, while good (when not draining unexpectedly), isn't quite as good as the Z3 it replaced

- Edge screen, looks nice, makes handling fiddly, and the features are utter gimmicks

- Software still lets the side down, Samsung just do not seem to get the hang of this. Buggy, laggy and rough around the edges

At this early stage of ownership, I am not sure I'll make it through 2 years with this device, which is kind of annoying; I sometimes wonder whether I should sell it now while it's still worth something and maybe give the HTC / iPhone 6S+ / next Nexus a go... I'll stick with it for now.

I gave the HTC a fondle and fount it way too chunky for me. Came from an iPhone 6s, so can always go back to it if needs be. Don't think I will be though. Enjoying the Edge. I can see why some might not though - the edge stuff is a waste of time, though I do like how the phone looks because of it.

Perhaps not hugely helpful but: http://recomhub.com/blog/how-to-fix-galaxy-s7-wont-rotate-problem-and-gyro-stopped-working/

Does at least show there's enough of a problem to cause a video to be made about it. Think I might have first seen it mentioned on Reddit somewhere.

I did what you suggested, uninstalled the updates and re downloaded from play store, but still same thing.

Been off the last few days so havent been paying much attention to phone/battery but I will also disable it and start using another browser.

Yeah I think if you re-download it, it wont help as it just seems to be Chrome full stop that is causing it. You really need to try and not use or disable it (which I can't say that I'm hugely happy about as I've used it for many years without too many issues on other phones). That said, the Samsung browser isn't too bad and seems better optimised.

If its not that, then it might be a corrupt media file. I'd suggest clearing the internal storage by first manually going through tidying up, then using CCleaner or SD Maid(?). Also remove the SD card if you have one.

So i just got myself a Edge, in Gold colour, which is actually more Titanium-y

But holding in my hand for 3.2 seconds before deciding it 100% needs a case, so whats the go to case for these, i'd like it to be as slim as possible but offering decent protection mainly for the sides and back.
