No Man's Sky - Procedural space game

Can't post a direct link due to swearies, but Youtube 'New Disappointment Discovered: No Man's Sky'.

6:42 Sean Murray states you can land on a asteroids.
6:47 Sean Murray states the Animal will eat each other.
7:12 Sean Murray states you don't have to gather resources.
7:30 Sean Murray sates no dlc
7:32 Sean Murray states you can play with your friends
7:38 Sean Murray sates you can grief other players
7:52 Sean Murray states you can run into other players.

Thanks for this! I also paid a revisit to the reddit link which I originally thought was a table of text but it's now evolved into quite a brilliant list with links to specific parts of video interviews and direct quotes.

I asked for one example that couldn't be misunderstood nor related to multiplayer and I got more than that, thank you. Please don't over exaggerate people into one extreme or another, I know it's easily done but there's so many folks getting utterly offended and jumping to the most extreme assumptions. In their eyes right now I'm an apologist who was defending my awful purchase but is now eating humble pie and pulling out the unfairly misunderstood card.

All I was previously noticing were youtube channels releasing "what happened" content and repeating several items incorrectly then I'd also witnessing people write things like "I saw the tweet saying nms is not a multiplayer game but that's not the same as saying there is no multiplayer in nms." Which is why I asked this question and now I can see there were definitely other lies which cannot be misunderstood and weren't multiplayer related.

I wanted to say that so my next point isn't misunderstood (as a diversion from being given plausible proof); I feel like the only solid points he stated incorrectly were naming ships, landing on asteroids and planets that rotate around the sun as well as their own axis.

We are learning that faction wars are hidden behind warp technology and the further you evolve the warp tech on your ship the more you see this content, there are planets teaming with life when you pick blue stars which allow non-toxic climates with flurishing plant life and hence a larger animal population.

Well, I'm now much happier with the game. Lush planets? Lots of herds of animals? Big space battles? It's all there, it's just locked behind the Warp Drive upgrades.

...It's absolutely daft why they put this all behind such a grind. I mean, I get it now that I've got there, but they must have known that most people were going to get bored of lifeless rocks before they got to that point.

Even just some kind of tutorial that says "You need to upgrade your warp drive to access more intereresting planets!"

Then you also have the outrage of the story aspect which doesn't offer to take you to the center of the galaxy. That story aspect is in fact the Atlas Path and, although you can't elect in the options provided to decline but, you can press B on your controller and nope the hell out of there and continue your own trek towards the center of the galaxy. As mid_gen posted there is much more content revealed behind evolving your warp tech and warping further into the center.

It seems that the a lot of the promised features are being discovered one by one by players here and there.
It's absolutely amazing to read how many critics then resort to cringe-worthy hair-splitting to justify their crumbling positions. Really very amusing.
Can't they see that they're beginning to make absolute titts of themselves?

I started off a massive fan of what I saw of the game, so if I'm proved wrong with what I thought when I started playing then I'll be happy with that.

My biggest gripe for the game is the flight controls, there was no mention one way or another of what controllers were supported, I don't think it was a massive leap to expect flight sticks to be supported. The pre-release footage showed the player getting very low level and flying amongst the terrain which you can't do thanks to the stupid safety thing stopping you.

If the features are in, then people should adjust their opinions. However it wouldn'tve ruined it for Hello Games to say the outer worlds are a bit crap, towards the centre is where it's at (if that's the case).

I have not read that anyone has discovered the missing things in the A Joe video. IF people play it for 100 h and all the mentioned things are not there then they are not for that player

Had chance to try this out. First wandered about a bit found some items then nearby was a galactic store cube thingy. Clicked on it and was given two options (Buy or Sell). Clicking on either did nothing. Couldnt exit or do anything so end tasked game. Tried again and found this creature running along so chased it with my mine laser which didnt seem to damage it then got stuck on a tree. Could rotate 360 degree but not move. Couldnt get into menu or anything. Had to end task again.

Best £40 I ever saved.

You failed at the UI. You don't just click but instead hold the mouse down.

It isn't really him that failed - the UI is not exactly the best design and breaks several conventions of intuitive PC use. I picked it up fairly fast but the initial impression is pretty poor.

EDIT: If I hadn't have watched a few videos of people playing it on the PS4 I'd have probably not worked some of it out very quickly.

Agree with Joe on this one.

Seems like Sean simply didn't want to say no in interviews and disappoint people.

It's not just that though, apparently up until only a month ago they were publicising it using way better builds than what they ultimately delivered.

"One man's lie" was a good summation though.

If I were to pick this up in the future would it run well on an old i5 and a 2gb gtx770 or would I be better just getting the ps4 version?

A Joe is nothing more then a troll.
If you look at his screen when playing you can tell he didn't play very long maybe a few hours at most.

Has someone not caught up in the hype or promises, is the game as delievered any good? I don't care about whats not there, just whats there.
Ignoring all the hype and drama I was initially really impressed, then that turned turned to boredom (way too much grind. Absolutely everything needs recharging so often..)

However I've added a few mods to make it a bit better and also use a cheat meaning I don't have to recharge everything. So I'm free to wander about mining expensive stuff to sell, exploring the planets and just having a laugh.

Still not 40 quid's worth though. I've done about 28 hours in the game so far.

I avoided the hype but it's not really a game for me, my time is limited and I haven't gamed in 5 months until this came out. I've better things to plough my time into which was sad, I was hoping for something decent for me.

But, as you can tell by this thread, some people love it, others hate it, some aren't fussed.

Buy it on steam, play it for 90 mins, picture yourself doing that for another 100 hours then decide if you want a refund :)

£1.40 an hour of play time, i'd say you've got your money's worth out of it.

Why not just go the whole hog, and cheatengine 50 million in credits...

Well i've spent a considerable amount of time in the game and am in a better position to comment compared to any earlier posts i made.

I'm not going to spend hours picking out quotes and answering them, so i'll just prattle on :D

Angry Joe, whos reviews i enjoy and usually are spot on, was pretty close in his summation.

I did notice however that his gear ( low gear slots ) was still very early in the game and no upgrades had been used. These upgrades that are easily obtainable, through spending some time, greatly reduce the amount of time you have to apply healing to yourself, and also greatly reduce the amount of time it takes to mine resources.
His intro, was a humorous exageration - which imo he could have corrected by playing further. Any game, at the start you are weak and need to improve.
I honestly think had he had the time, and not been plagued by the ps4 crashes he might of adjusted his opinion on this.

That aside, i don't see him given it more than 6/10 - a score i would wholeheartedly agreed with ( and the score i had written down before watching his review ) .

The game as a whole has something, but the something is outweighed by the amount of nothing.

One review i watched someone was saying ' Where's the hook? , What is going to make me want to come back ?

And that is the main problem imo.

If the goal is to reach the centre, then keep me interested and wanting to reach that goal.

Simple exploration is fine, and the absence of 'fast travel points', so prevalant in most games, gave you a depth of scale to the game. There was no going back once you decided to progress.

But long journeys require something to pass the time, and NMS failed in this department.
As different and unique as each planet looked - Equally it was similar to any number of the planets you had already visited.

Easy things to change the sameness were missed.

Buildings - You cannot tell me that 3 'totally different' races all use the same buildings throughout an entire Galaxy !

Ship customisation - Even just graphical changes are a basic thing that injects a purpose to advancing. My 8 slot ship looks the same as the 48 slot ship i worked bloody hard for - Where is the reward ?

Most other things have been covered in this thread, and whilst 'some' i can see through playing are actually in the game ( to a degree ) , the bulk of the complaints do stand.

I genuinely believe that the misrepresentation should fall not solely on Sean Murray/HG but jointly with Sony.

Murray had the vision, and i still believe this is not the end product he wanted. Sony had a different vision, and as they held the purse strings, we have ended up with a dumbed down console friendly mess of a game.

I'm the same, it's the simple things that should have been in the game in the first place. The mouse hold down serves no benefit, it's a "feature". Among many others.
