*** The Samsung Galaxy Note 7 Thread ***

so is it normal for a new android flagship to be as slow as a year old apple phone?

Is it normal for Apple to stick a finger up your Jacksie in order control what you can do with your phone in order to optimise for a one shoe fits all approach?

I think you'll find it is.

Probably Mobilephonesdirect £669 + free VR (black only)

or CPW £699.99 + free VR and want somewhere you can walk in to if have problems

Thanks buddy.

CPW are offering to deliver on the 30th @ full price. Mobilephonesdirect seems like the better option.

Doesn't matter - as a consumer all I care about is performance when the costs are the same. but again both irrelevant, fact remains, a year old phone with half the spec is beating it on performance.

Samsung seems to be burying its head... I won't buy until I see improvement.

also - that 20% drop is probably because the "free" gear headset offer will end, to which the price drop will happen. Coincidence? :p

I just checked and it said 31st to me. Shame as 30th is my day off. I've ordered one for Click & Collect on the 31st as I can grab it after work :) Thursday another day off to play, then fly to the US on Friday! Good timing! **EDIT** Also, it says 'From the 31st August'. If they don't have it by the 1st I'll have to cancel, which I've done before with CPW and was a bit of a pain getting the money back.

Really? Seems quite an odd view to me. You don't care what features your phone has, as long as it benchmarks well?

Apparently one in China exploded while charging using a USB Type-C converter:

I guess that is all the proof some need... ;)

Which I guess is why the Google engineer was warning against using cables with the Nexus 6P and 5X which were cheap knockoffs looking to get on the upcoming USB-C bandwagon. AndyCr15 even started a thread here to highlight this.

A standard pin conversion doesn't cut it - for a USB (A or B, mini, micro or full size) to USB-C conversion cable a resister must be fitted, and not everyone was doing this. As the Google engineer said, an improperly designed cable can damage either the device charging the phone (a mains adaptor, a PC or a USB hub) or the phone or tablet (or the cable itself for that matter).

Even phone manufacturers (I know of at least one) were recalling cables due to their failure to follow the USB-C spec sheet and their potential to damage devices.

Note that the article doesn't mention which cable they used - not even a hint that it was the official cable.

Just a heads up that I contacted mobilephonesdirect and they confirmed that the VR headset offer is only for people taking out a Vodafone contract and not available to SIM free preorders. This would tie in with the terms and conditions and the offers seen on other sites including CPW where it clearly states the offer is not available when you select SIM free. Not sure if this has only changed recently but I know the offer wording was the same a week ago.
