iPhone 7 ** Rumours & Discussion **

Ones that fit inside the ears, ear buds. No I haven't. I don't want to go running with a set of beats type headphones. Again it creates an issue that wasn't there before. More battery drain and having to carry spare batteries or something else to fully charge every day.

Oh my how is that possible. I see people wearing them everyday for the past 2/3 years. I wear jaybird X2's for the gym. Fantastic. BUT I only wear them in the gym.

I have to agree the only thing which let's the iPhone down is the screen and camera. My note 5 camera is amazing for a phone camera, same with the screen. Although I'm not fussed that much as as I prefer ios to android.

I still find it strange how many things people want the iphone to be when almost all of them are completely the opposite of what I want. I have looked at the bleeding edge samsung devices and they aren't that nice. They don't feel as premium as the iphone. The curved edges are horrible and I don't massively want the edge of my screen to look crap. Yes, up the resolution but I can't tell the difference in res between my iphone 6 and the latest samsung. The colours also feel blown out on the samsung.

I love having a physical home button and touchID is the best thing apple have added to their phone in a very long time. If they kill the 3.5mm headphone jack its not a massive issue for me as they will include an adaptor. I have no idea why they would create lightning headphones though. Just keep the current earpods and they can use the adaptor. Either that or give us wireless earpods.

I know what you're saying, but there is plenty they could do to make a more exciting product.

I don't really care about faster processors and GPUs to be honest, what we have already is plenty fast enough for a phone.

How about a phone with the entire front being screen with no bezels or physical home button?

I want something new in design not the same phone with sightly better performance that is barely noticeable anyway.

Who cares if it plays angry birds at 200fps rather than 150fps?

Well.. having a little spell with an S7 Edge I can tell you I see lots of problems with having no bezels, I'm forever pressing stuff I don't want to press and I've had to put a case on it just to protect the edges of the screen from unintended touches now which is frustrating.

I'm also one of the physical home button fans, got to say its still the most natural way of waking a screen to me rather than pressing the power button but I could be convinced to live without if someone did a decent raise to wake thing.. although having said that I often wake it when its on my desk at work so not sure about that.

In terms of speed and whatnot I would say that difference between the 6 and 6S to me was immediately apparent, surprisingly so.. I said I wouldn't do another S update when my 4S left me flat (I missed the whole 5/5S thing as Apple were so doggedly sticking to small screens) but the difference was shocking.

Anyway, my simple point is I see the casing as a vessel for the screen and the gubbins, don't get me wrong I too like to be able to see what I've just dropped £600 on so a bit more difference wouldn't go amiss but I don't really see that as Apple's issue, more mine for only looking skin deep.

I will also say that 1) I honestly can't tell the difference between 1080p and higher screens, I really don't see that as a big deal and moving from the lower than 1080p screen of my 6S to the 1440p S7 edge has really brought me nothing interesting and 2) how on earth Android is still managing to serve me up relatively simple games that have noticeable stutter is beyond me.

They could surely make a touch dead zone around the edges of the screen and with an always on screen, touching it to wake the phone? They just need to be a bit more creative if they want my money.

I have never seen any stutter playing any game on android personally. Not that I really play games on my phone as they are all pay to play garbage.

FYI, I will lock this thread once the September 7th keynote begins.

This will ensure that all discussion of the new iPhone is maintained in a single thread (link)

I have to say, what do you really expect? Some of the 'ideas' in here just defy the laws of physics.

The only down side to having no headphone jack is that you will now need an extra cable for your power bank to charge your headphones as well as your phone.

I just want a phone that has a decent battery and is robust. Whats the point in making a phone so thin if I have to coat it in rubber to stop it smashing on the first drop?

Were at the stage now over the last couple of years where running screen protectors is has little merit, lets get back to the case-less days!

I own an 6S+ but I would rather have an S7 active running iOS. Yes its ugly but why do you even care its in your pocket 95% of the time.

I think ideal we should push for bluetooth headphones, the advantages are plain as day.
Other than it being wireless, what other advantages (for mobile/electronic devices in general) are there for Bluetooth audio?

I can't think of a single one. However i can think of a handful of disadvantages of Bluetooth for audio - range is limited to a few feet, limited bandwidth which in turn lowers audio quality, another device to charge and the (possibly) extra cable/charger needed for that, arguably bulkier (in some instances) etc.

Problem is, Bluetooth was never designed with audio quality in mind. Rather it was for headsets and small data transfers and overall, the protocol is a bit shoddy, bloaty and generally a mess - iRDA/"flinging poo at walls" springs to mind.

If there was a proper wireless audio protocol that could replicate audio bit for bit, then i'd be all for it but until then, Bluetooth is no way a replacement, (and shouldn't be seen as one) for a decent analogue output.

Dunno about that, my Sony BT earphones work for up to 100 ft away ive tested them.Only brick walls seem to interrupt the signal.

100 feet? in a lab with line of sight yes, in the real world... just no.

I agree bluetooth is good enough for most people, but its not amazing and it not for everyone.

Its just expensive and hassle vs a set of $2 earbuds that 99% of the population use which come with the device.

I walked it out in the area i work at ( i was bored one night ) i was standing in the middle of the road outside my work and it was still working.Anyway why would would you even need it to work at that distance your phone will always be within easy reach anyway.

I'm not to fussed over the lack of 3.5mm jack provided the adapter is included
I use some decent B&O wired headphones regularly which have a detachable cable so I'm kind of hoping someone will release a new one with a lightning connector on one end!

Just sold my 6 plus on a recycling website for £328 + £13 cash back and the valuation is valid for 28 days so I can keep hold of it until I get the 7 plus and still get top money for it so I'm quite pleased with that!

Just heard, no attena bands, no home button and beats in the box.

Wait what? Where did you "hear" this? As soon as Apple remove the home button I'm done. I hate all the touch sensitive buttons on a lot of android phones and removal of home button would mean no TouchID?

So what are the advantages of no 3.5mm jack then?

Thinner phone which is what everyone wants :)

I dont understand?? Why are Apple removing the 3.5mm jack to make the iPhone thinner? Do they want it to break easily? How flimsy and cheap it will feel with the amount of people I see with broken iPhone screens will make them more clumsy to breaking them.

With an iPhone, Apple Watch and now Bluetooth earphones. Do we need ANOTHER device we have to charge regularly!?!?!? Gosh.......

Not everyone wants a wafer thin phone, I'd have an inch thick phone if they stuck a 5-6000mah battery in it.

Sarcasm buddy. Pretty sure everyone wants a thicker phone with a bigger battery. They're seriously getting hard to hold if they keep getting any thinner.

I don't think they are making it thinner. There is no suggestion of that anywhere. They are removing it because its a very old connector and they want to push the limits of what is capable with wireless technology. They can also potentially use that space on the bottom of the phone for other things like speakers. I imagine the amount of space it takes up is also quite a bit larger than you would think due to the extra support the 3.5mm socket requires in order to take the abuse of headphones being plugged in an wiggled about.

If you seriously don't care then you put a massive battery pack case on it. Most people do want a phone that that is slim and nice to look at and doesn't stick out of their pocket like a brick.

I would be careful moshi, a lot of these companies are notorious for not paying for a long time and for making up defects with phones to give you a much lower price. The BBC did a little piece on this a while ago and they sent absolutely pristine phones in and I don't think any of them didn't come back as significantly damaged and with offers much lower than the original quote.

Nobody is saying the 7 will be any thinner? In fact I've seen plenty of rumours that iPhone 7 cases can fit the iPhone 6 they're so similar in dimensions.

I'd guess the removal of the 3.5mm jack is to free up internal space (it's one of the larger components taking up space) and indeed the battery is apparently about 20% bigger.

I guess there's some element of waterproofing although the 6S was apparently pretty much waterproof anyway and there are a few instances of "waterproof" phones turning out not to be waterproof..

There's also the relentless design thing going on, getting rid of the holes/creating smooth lines and all that. It's fluff I'll give you that but to be fair you have to accept Apple have a way of operating which is not following the crowd so much, not jamming in features, not being first etc etc etc.. and whatever your view of that is they haven't really deviated from it and they seem to be doing fine.

I personally think there may be an element of the removal of optical drives/floppys/serial etc thing going on here.. I suspect they may be using the opportunity their relatively dominant position gives them to just force the narrative.

Given they've got the GDP of several decent sized countries in the bank I doubt money is much of a motivation here, yes they'll get some money from MFi licensing of lightning headphones but they get nothing on bluetooth ones and either way it would be a drop of a drop in the ocean when iPhone revenues are concerned so the downside risk of turning some customers off will be massively more important than the upside possibility of making a few million out of new headphone licensing.

I guess they believe they have a decent reason and to be honest considering the pace of development on fully wireless buds and bluetooth headphones with decent features/battery life etc now is about as good a time as ever to force it.

I get the views about people with high end headphones/people who prefer wired but then for them there will be countless cheap dongle adapters (Apple aren't the only people who make these things remember) so it's really not the end of the world, I expect in about 6 months nobody will give a monkeys it's gone.
