BBC license fee proposals...

Meh, i just pay Amazon to give me literally everything i need in life (£30-40 or £70-80 a year), what does the BBC give me (£150 a year)?

A bunch of nothing, that road to privatisation is paved with with disappointment.

I'm not going to subsidise "Britishness".

Then what, will the cyberpolice be paying you a visit to inform you as how you've just dun goofed?

I'd imagine they would just send you a letter saying hey we know you did this shiz, pay up or face court.

then you'd end up in court but then they have to prove its you who was using the computer and even if that computer was yours.

Not in the UK, nor can I use iPlayer, so license fee stuff isn't relevant, but just to add that I don't watch live TV, and haven't for the last 4 years. We have a big TV, but just use it for games and streaming. I use it to stream live football too, but the rights deal over here is so cheap that I don't mind paying (£17/season. So happy no one here cares about football :p).

You cant buy a decent 65 inch monitor with smart tv features though can you?
For smart features you use a TV box or fire stick style device. Then any decent 50+inch screen becomes a great media device. I use a projector for a 100" screen then Netflix and Prime. Firesticks are very cheap.

The BBC is not making good programs for a long time.. What they are showing now are ****.
They forced us to paid for crap shows..

Now they want us to pay for BBC iPlayer too.. What a joke..

Why can't TV manufacturers make TV without TV tuner. Just a big massive monitor for streaming videos...

Just my two cents.

why do you want them to manufacturer that, adds to their cost for no reason. just owning a tv doesn't mean you need a license. pointless for the manufacturer and for you.

i wonder how long it will be till they announce that as the BBC has a youtube channel, if you watch youtube you need to pay the license fee :)

New smart tvs by the likes of samsung now include hubs for home automation etc.

But again can you even find a 50inch plus screen without a tv tuner?

I belive they fixed that the same way they fixed "peove it was me driving" with speeding tickets.

As the owner you are required to secure it snd are responsible for knowing who is using it.

So if you can't give them a name then its you

You guys are very much in the minority.

Not really sure you're being honest with yourselves, most of want I watch is online, however not being able to watch any live shows, events or sports seems a bit of stretch.

There are plenty of large demographic groups who probably don't watch any live TV e.g. students. There's just no need to with catch up services being accessible from anywhere and through many devices.

The only time I watch live TV is when I visit my mother, and she only watches it because there's nothing better to do and says often that she could manage without a license using catch up.

The very fact that the BBC has now changed it's policy regarding catchup is precisely because the proportion of people not watching live TV is growing.

If you do somehow get caught just say your friend/family was around using the device via battery power watching TV. As long as they have a licence and as long as the device is via battery power you are covered. Any device can be battery powered with a cheap UPS. Unrelated to this I have been thinking about running my entire house off those new batteries. Charge them up with solor panels during the day and run at night from batteries. Still keep mains as a fall back.

Well you can use alternatives like me. I have a 100" screen via projector without a TV tuner.

Why does a TV tuner matter? As long as its not turned in you are fine. Just buy a 50"+ screen if its not smart get a firestick and use online only content. As long as you don't have an ariel or sky/virgin box plugged in you are good to go without a licence.

Yeah basically they noticed a dip in their profits, clicked on to what people were doing, then said nah you cant do that. They always used to hammer home the point that its all about watching LIVE TV, now they move the goalposts because people stop watching live TV, that's scummy to the nth degree.

Oh tuner doesnt matter to me the guy was asking.

They would then need the name of your friend and theyd check thier license.

I have no idea how much money they would spend prosecuting but they might be able to xheck which device was used.

Nothings changed tho has it? You only need a licence for live tv, not catch up AFAIK
