While I agree, how long before Nvidia start the gimping? Great prices though on some seriously fast cards.

Is this just scaremongering or is it reality? In 2 years time will a 980ti still work?

Its a bit of both the 980ti will still work in 2 years but its not being optimised for new games so all games now that it runs well with will always work but the new games will never see its full potential. There was a time when the 780ti was beating the 290x it hasn't gotten any worse it just has been optimised. I would not get these cards expecting to be playing games at the same level next year that they are playing now but its a great deal if someone just wants sli for some reason or you only play one game that its already optimised for. But yes a AMD cards are definitely kept in better shape in the long run but NVIDIA always have the fastest current gen.

There we are, £300 980ti's as expected. Took a bit longer than expected but got there in the end.

I remember all the 980Ti owners crying when told that second hand Tis would be sub £300.

Well, look what happened with the 780s.

People started noticing it's performance dropping way below AMD equivalent cards soon after the 9 series was released. Even in some older games it started performing worse.

I think the R9 Fury at £300 is a safer bet if you want similar but more future proof performance when compared to the 980ti. I've certainly seen it quite significantly out performing the 980ti in some of the DX12 / Vulcan benchmarks in the more recent games.

Yeah, there was no desktop 800 series. The 900 series was the replacement for the 700 series. The 970 and 980 came out ten months after the 780 Ti.

Buy another you know you want to Join Radeon, Gamble and the others in the SLI club.

You'll appreciate it in a few weeks time when it starts getting cold and you have an 800 watt heater next to your feet. Think of all them poor fellas shivering huddled around their puny 300 watt pascal systems.

It's 1 gen, there were no 8** series desktop gpus

980Ti hasn't went from being a high end card to nothing due to the 10** series cards being released. Don't fall for the marketing hype.

Think that's an extreme example. A normal 980 soundly beats the 480 in most things, especially when overclocking is taken into account:
