PlayStation 4 Pro in-bound

I thought that was more to do with average internet speeds. If everyone had minimum 100mbps broadband, then it could be streamed pretty much uncompressed.

Nearly. If you hypothetically had next to no packet loss too. A 100GB UHD Blu Ray disc has a data rate of 128mbps. Netflix's 4K stream is about 10 times less than that, at the moment.

It's two fold really devs will be an issue as some may just cater for ps4 gen1 (may as well call it that) and others may code poorly for gen2 so ends up a mess for gen1 and 2. Multi options and multiple settings are what my pc is for I didn't buy into consols for this. I'm happy with both xbone and ps4 how they are now I have my pc if I want to tinker and over all I find most developer lazy when given lots of options and configuration choices. I imagine there will be gem titles to have too though so won't be all bad. Uncharted 4 proved ps4 has more than enough power to show a beautiful game

..and some are not going to even bother since they already have an established user base in the standard PS4.

I am sure that fella in the conference said its up to 3rd party devs if they decide patch in Pro features, may be wrong, not watching it again.

Got one ordered anyway.

Wonder if Devs can / will charge for the "Pro" patch.....in which case it may well be worth their while

Upto 128mbps, but it will be interesting to know whether any current UHD BR's are actualy getitng anywhere near that rate anywhere consistantly

The problem is that while a very small % of the population is on faster than that, the average is still something ludicrously low like 8mbps - which is the official connection speed not actual, so more like 1/2 that.

Because of this no service is going to bother streaming original copy video and sound for years if not decades (in the UK) because such a small % will be able to recieve it anyway.

From October all ps4 games have to have a pro patch/version according to Sony. Not sure if that includes download only games though.

Shopto do finance and bnpl (with paypal credit).[Bit of a minefield though, but if you want it paypal will give £400 credit to almost anyone and if you spend over £150 you don't have to pay it for 4 months interest free. I wouldn't bother to be honest, save up now.

(Sorry hit quote instead of edit on last post)

sorry but if you have to look at finance to buy a games console especially if it's £350 then you shouldn't be buying it.

Get saving now or wait a fews month's ;)

It's a Playstation not an iPhone :p

Unless you know something no one else does outside of the MS Xbox team that's just pure guesswork.

I'd have thought it would be great news for all console gamers if the extra year means Scorpio is full 4K. MS may well have learnt thier lesson last time and if they want to win back console market share it makes sense that Scorpio will be noticeably more powerful than PS4 Pro, otherwise why bother. They certainly have the money and relationships with the hardware partners.

Enjoy PS4 Pro/XB1S now and in a year time hopefully we'll all have a choice which allows us to switch to "proper" 4K gaming if we want to. Who cares if it means you switch from one brand to another unless you have some emotional attachement to giving a Japanese or US company who neither know nor care about you money particularly?

With a bit of luck Sony will follow on a couple of years later with "PS5" at which point we'll presumably have other advantages and choice and can switch again if we want to.

What a truly amazing precedent, this industry is starting to really bore me though, not sure i care anymore tbh.

It's kind of off putting to know that whilst a game might be able to run at 60fps, it will be kept lower for multi players games to keep things in line across both PS4s.

You will still get resolution, detail improvements, more stable framerates in multiplayer.

Your just not going to see one running 30 and one running 60.

Providing the game runs 60fps in the first place that's fine. Like BF1 going from 900p 60fps to 1080p 60fps. That I would be happy with.

Destiny being kept 30fps on PS4 pro for example would be pretty annoying knowing it would be capable of more.

still going to get dips well below 60fps on the pro due to CPU bottleneck.

especially in a game like BF.

This is what puts me off. The Pro would be so much more exciting a prospect if it were Sony's new console with developers making games specifically for it. I'd have paid more than the asking price for that. Of course that would have been market suicide! Still, whatever we get on the Pro, either due to hardware, coding or gameplay issues like the one you mentioned, is going to be crippled by the PS4. That and the lack of UHD drive takes the shine off for me.

I think I'm the only person that is really not bothered about 30fps. A locked 30fps seems smooth enough to me. It's good not being fussy... :-)

I never used to be bothered either but after playing Doom, there's always this little niggle I get when playing some other games now - what would this be like at 60fps...
