PlayStation 4 Pro in-bound

Here's a couple more snippets of information. The two Infamous games (Second Son and First Light) and Days Gone will only have supersampling as enhancements for PS4 Pro on 1080p TVs. No extra frame rate or graphical bits and bobs. Infamous games are rendering natively at 1800p and then being upscaled to 2160p. Days Gone is rendering at 2160p with checkerboard.

So that's the worst option you could say for 1080p TV owners but the easiest for devs to do.

Man the more I read about this thing the more underwhelming it is. Sony is making huge profit on these 'Pro' consoles. Huge !

Same Memory, same CPU just a tiny clock bump, same everything just a few more GPU shaders. Really does not have a UHD 4K BluRay drive.

Comparisons between 4K (PC) and 'Pro' 4K are pretty dire.

Honestly people are better waiting for Scorpio or just sticking with PC for a real upgrade. I know fanboys will say otherwise but this is very underwhelming.

We know that Scorpio is using Zen cores will extract more performance from the 6TF GPU than Jaguar ever could. Really guys wait till this time next year or buy a GTX 1070 for the same price.

This is why I lost interest when it became apparent the focus was on 4K. Granted, new releases in future will likely have more time spent on their Pro 1080p mode compared to free updates for older titles, but the 4K mode will be getting more attention when really, it's at 1080p that the extra power could really shine.

Still in 2 minds about this. So hopefully you guys can help out.

OK, I'll only be gaming at 1080p, by the time I get a 4k screen a new ps will be out. I know only some games are making use of the pro's power at 1080p, so not all and am I correct in saying any online games would end up being scaled back to the normal ps settings to keep a level playing field? Sure I read that, but could be totally wrong.

Did I also read that TLOU was having problems on the pro at 1080p? I know it's easily fixed, but buying the pro for greater graphics that only some games will utilise and the ones that do could be bugged(till patched). Just puts me off a little.

Any truth in what I'm saying or have I subconsciously already made my mind up for a slim?

Maybe everything will be fine, I might get a slim for now and see how it's looking at Christmas.

I'll see how it plays out. Right now though I am waiting for more news on Scorpio and a TV upgrade towards the end of next year. The Pro is not getting me very excited tbh.

No intention of getting a PC.

No you can't but factor in the cost of psn and games and the gap closes quite a bit over the life of a console.

I don't want to bring politics into this thread but brexit has actually affected this somewhat. Most people buy their PC games through online key shops, most of whom are based in mainland Europe and use Euro's. Since Brexit, the pound has fell so sharply against the euro that new games just aren't that cheap.

For example, Overwatch costs about £30 for the cheapest key, whereas a while back when we was trading at over 1.4, it would have been low to mid twenties. It's only £34 on PS4. So what used to be a £10-£12 difference is now only £4.

who knows how long that will last though? that said even if its £5 a game that add up with the £40 a year for psn. you can basically get a new graphics card every 4 odd years with that money and still have more gpu power than the consoles even with their mid life upgrades. People always seem to overlook the general costs of console gaming, its got a cheaper initial cost but costs a fair bit more in the long run where as pc is a larger initial cost but cheap to maintain espicially if you buy solid hardware. Good HD'S and PSU's will outlast the consoles so we're only talking about GPU, CPU, MOBO and RAM that you need to upgrade over the years. lets be honest the CPU markets isn't all that these days, you can even get away with having the same cpu for 6+ years. a used 280x costs like £80 and has more gpu grunt than the ps4 pro if we're going by teraflops.

Monitor, keyboard, Mouse, desk, computer chair, OS.

I've built plenty of PC's in my time, the last two were over £1k. Unless you are buying a new game every week it won't really add up.

They are different animals. I don't game on a console for the graphics or for the cost. I do it because sitting in my living room having a beer chatting to my wife or even playing some lbp with her is nice.

Will be the same when we have kids.

Everyone gets so hung up on graphics it's stupid.

The ones who make me laugh are the ones who say things like "look at the shadows on her hair, or "look at the Jaggies on that cliff face compared to this one"

The fact is, games move at a pace that you will only see these details for the merest of milliseconds. Most of the time, you won't even notice them.

When you consider the costs, the ease of use, the form factor and the length of service before upgrades, I think the £350 PS4 Pro compares very favourably against a gaming PC.

I love the pretties though! Makes you go ohhh! :D

Depends how much you value yuor time at fixing windows issues, installing new drivers to cure issues. gfx profiles etc etc etc

PC's and consoles are aimed (generally) at completely different users. Consoles are for people to pick up (and drop) when /where they fancy without worrying too much about whether it will work in a month or two if you havent touched it. Try that with Windows and you will have a mountain of updates forced on you for an hr or so before you can even start gaming (and potentially have more issues because of those updates).

Ive come form pc gaming back in the day and for the last 5% of performance (for the price) its definitely worth it - but for more casual gamers the consoles - of your personal favourite variety - are just as much worth while
