What have you done to your car today?

The wipers stopped working. They ran slowly and then totally died and won't budge.

The car is a 56 plate Clio. I've checked the fuses and they are fine and the relay. Also took the wiper stalk off to check wiring, nothing strange here. Then I removed the wiper motor and it was stuck together with some random white gel. The inside looks like new but I'm presuming someone has tried to fix it in the past.

As everything else seems fine would it be safe to assume it's the motor? I've bought another just to be safe but can't think what else it could be. Doubt it was a fuse as they didn't not work at all, just went slow then stopped.

^^ I would personally remove the motor (as you will need to anyway with your diagnosis) and connect 12V over its terminals while it is loose.

If it works...damn :p

So, I've been doing a bit of internet research and found out that the BRZ I'm about to get was the first BRZ in the UK. Previous owner was a track enthusiast and the car is very well known over at Abbey Motorsport so that's good news and reassuring.

Thank you. I've seen that done on the Internet. May just change the motor to save the middle man and see if it works, rather than connect a power source to the old one.

How do you function?

You just buy stuff with it then transfer money to pay it off!

You pay it back monthly but theres a percentage fee on everything after the first X amount of months right..?

I've never had any interest in a credit card before. Never even enquired, or wondered about them. :p

I was in the same boat, knew nothing about them until a few months ago and had never had one before. Needed to boost my credit rating (which has done and put me in "Excellent" rather than "Average"), so have been loading it up and paying it all off each month as it's 0%.

Doubt I'll continue using it when the 0% ends and my credit score is okay, if I do I'll cancel it and go for another one that does 0% unless it negatively affects my score for some reason.

I only use it for car parts though, so being quite restrictive there!

Here we have it lads... Another pile of parts arrived today :D

This time we have:

New numberplate mount front.
Cyl 1-3 Chain tensioner crush washer and o-ring.
All new fixings for the bumpers both front and back! Many fixings!

Some spannering will be required this weekend I feel :D

I don't know how anyone reaches adulthood without knowing this stuff.

If you clear the balance monthly you pay no interest. If you don't settle it, interest is added - it's quoted as an annual rate but applied monthly. There are plenty deals of 0% on purchases for x months out there which means no interest is added but the minimum payment still needs to be made -it's normally 5% or thereabouts.

You should have a credit card. Putting your day to day spending on it and clearing it at the end of the month means you pay no interest but your current account balance gains interest. Many also offer cashback or rewards. You also get much better protection on purchases.

This sounds like the mechanism has seized. Remove the motor and make sure you can move the linkage freely before you order a new motor.
