The first of stulid's builds looks good, it will allow some overclocking on the CPU if you fancy but the cooler might restrict how far you can take it.

With the second build the 3GB 1060 is going to be lacking in VRAM for the future, plus that Gigabyte Windforce cooler isn't very good so I would avoid that version if you wanted to stick to NVidia.

If you're not interested in overclocking you could go for something like this, slightly less clock speed on the CPU, slightly faster 1060 with plenty of VRAM, 16GB of RAM albeit slightly slower MHz than the 8GB before, and under budget:

Sorry but the wind force cooler is fine, plus the superior warranty and support over that one you suggested. So check your facts beforehand.

You also haven't included any case fans which is needed.

monitor is not needed but he is not comfortable building himself as first PC coming from console. so might need building cost added
not sure what the deal is with this i just told him to phone when hes got parts he needs ready to order and ask a price for build ?
or is there a better way ?

Point taken regarding case fan. I wouldn't be recommending a £210 3GB 1060 though regardless of the 1 year extra warranty and support.

Why don't you build it with him, show him the way.

But you said the windforce cooler isnt very good, so back that up.

Same cooler on RX480. 1060 is a cooler running chip but shows the cooler isn't great, specially for the premium being charged.

The EVGA SC is cheaper, faster and cooler:

But regardless, I don't think the 3GB card is a good choice looking forward.

Yeah, I would stay away from that Gigabyte 1060 as well. In fact, I'd stay away from Gigabyte GPUs period.

And definitely tell your friend to man up and hit youtube, building a PC is dead simple. Paying £60 on his budget for that is foolhardy.

Link to your sources?

You need to back your claims up otherwise you are talking trash.

I don't have any links other than the review above I watched the other day using the Windforce 2x on another card. The card you recommended has the same one, therefore I wouldn't want a card with it. The EVGA SC is cheaper, faster, same warranty, arguably the best after sales support out of everyone. Reviews show the cooler is very good, heres the one I watch a few weeks ago showing that, 6GB version but same SC cooler.

I'm not proclaiming to have tested the cards side by side to categorically say which is best, I'm just trying to advise OP on which appears to be best value for money, not trash talking just because I don't agree with you.

Sounds like you had a bad experience with them. I've found Gigabyte to be among the best vendors, though in future I would like to try other options off the menu such as EVGA / Inno3D / Zotac. Swings and roundabouts, I guess. :)

The Windforce and gaming are not the same coolers and the GPUs cant be compared.

OK just checked the Gigabyte website and you'tr right they are slightly different. Doesn't change that the Gigabyte one is overpriced they're both bad choices anyway with only 3GB VRAM.

The guy gave a budget and I put in a perfect spec for that, youve done nothing but spread FUD and not back up your claims.
