HD7970 or GTX680 in 2016

Which is as moot as Kaap's point, the op's obviously looking for the cheapest gpu in that pp-that more than likely rules out 4/6Gb gpus as the 3/2Gb will always be cheaper unless you get very lucky.:)

I believe in my post I said get a HD7970 to the OP.:D

Never said you didn't.

Like myself you can all say what you want but the fact of the matter bbfb=2/3Gb 80 v 70 the clear champ is the red one unless 80's are going for considerably less than a 7950.:p

My GF has a 7950 in her setup and it works for League of Legends and Overwatch brilliantly with an old i7 860. Go for the 7970 and have 0 regrets.

Funny how back in the day the 680 was universally regarded as better.

Same with the 290x vs 780/780ti.... How times change

AMD seem to do better as far as longevity is concerned.

Get a 7970.

All I know is the 7970 destroys the 680 in doom reboot.

I can't speak for the AMD card, but my factory overclocked GTX 670 (benched higher than a stock 680) struggled to maintain a 40fps average in Doom even on low settings, which is why I just bought an RX480.

If OP can get a card with 4Gb VRAM rather than 2gb for the same price then that's the one to go for IMO.

I knew that was coming.:D

Go on then find a second hand 6gb HD7970 !!!

There were not very many made and they were extremely overpriced and poor value.

Wasn't it only Sapphire that did them?

On topic,
I'd pick the 7970 for better consistency in performance across many games but of course if you only have a game or two in mind that heavily favour Nvidia over AMD it'd make sense to go with the 680.

However not knowing what games may be available in the future I'd go with the 7970 which has some support today thanks to being GCN.

Note: The 7970 does not support freesync.

This is the smartest answer.

Budget is £50-60 second hand prices.

£50-£60 budget included delivery for Radeon 7970 or GTX 680 in 2016?

Had a hard look around so there are no way you can get either Radeon 7970 or GTX 680 for £50 to £60. I sold my old 4GB GTX 670 2 years ago for £110 and checked list of recently sold prices in 2016 are around £80 now for 4GB GTX 670 and £90-£100 for 7970 and GTX 680, cant believed people bidded insanely very high prices for these old cards. I saw a 2GB GTX 680 listed with buy it now for £160, 4GB GTX 680 £120, 3GB Radeon 7970 £125 or £60 for broke not worked 7970. Wow.

So around £50-£60 can get you either Radeon 7870, Radeon R9 270X and 2GB GTX 760 for that prices easy. GTX 760 is slower than GTX 670 in games benchmarks.

I saw 2GB GTX 670 listed for nearly £65 with free delivery but it £5 higher than your budget range.
