Dacia appreciation Thread

Lads lads lads.... I know we all want to show the lenght of our penis's.

But this is purely for Dacia appreciation thread.... If you cant accept that this is the best all round car you can buy, then i kindly ask that you take leave Sir's.

As a proud Dacia owner, i consider myself to be an elite, i dont dabble in "bantz".

You've JUST mentioned a funny noise and needing to replace a wheel bearing. Unbelievable.

My car was £1200 and is now on over 172,000 miles! It is not the basis of my argument...

Even so, it has needed a £60 tensioner (the cause of the 'weird' chattering noise) and a wheel bearing which I can get done for £70 incl parts and labour, in the past 12,000 miles! Aside from that it has been utterly reliable so far, and my average MPG over that mileage is 64...

It's not just about money - it's about hassle and peace of mind, too.

Most people who buy a new car could afford to fix an old car. They just don't want to. It's a hassle, it's a pain and it's something some people just wish to do without it.

So you buy a 3 year old Kia, not a new Dacia.

How did you make just two issues span 30 pages then? :p

Because I spent weeks faffing and panicking instead of taking it to a garage and saying "its leaking, please diagnose and fix". :p

Tell that to the mums and dads with 2+ kids who have been ripped off buying bodged second hand cars, only have it fail on them.

You know how it is. You tried selling a bodge car.

There's a market for the £10k Dacia Duster - it's for people who don't want to faff with second hand nonsense. It's not for an enthusiast who wants a W213.

Mate, if you were here right now, i would literally let you sit in the driver seat and rev it (not past 3000rpm tho not to clip the valves). Couldn't have put it better.

My misses loves her Dacia so much, every time she sits in it she says "I just want to make love to you darling". Pffft..... I tell you that Chrome styling pack brings all the ****** to tha yard.

In a few years time when you grow up a little you're going to read your previous posts and cringe at how bad they were.

I think its more the fact that there isn't a clear line between when I'm actually putting some thought into my posts, and when I'm typing mindless nonsense to pass the time or to vent frustration.

I'm conscious that I'm a daft knob on here at times... That hasn't changed in the past 5 years... ;)

If I could find something better to do, and I weren't so hopelessly addicted to posting on here, I'd post far less frequently, and probably make a lot more valued posts...

For many people a car is not a labour of love, it's simply a tool which must perform a job and there is nothing but irritation and stress involved in finding a garage every time it goes wrong and playing the bill lottery and hoping the guy fixing it has a clue what he's doing.

Sorry but I have to agree. For me? Hell no. For my in-laws however, this type of thing is something they really should look at, because it makes sense. They buy a second hand car on finance to get to work (latest is a decent Polo), work to pay the loan off for three or four years then do it all again. They see the inevitable faults/issues as 'hassle', just like most 'normal' (non-car) folks.

They do 4k a year tops, a 'service' is a visit to the MOT man once a year, and they treat it as an appliance (again, as with most 'normal' people). They just want something my MIL can pootle to work in - city centre, about 5 miles away - five times a week, and do a weekly shop in. That's it. My MIL's response to my interest in performance cars is, "But they all only do 70mph so what's the point?"... :o

Spending the same money they usually do, but getting a new warrantied car nobody has farted in yet, makes quite some sense. No worries, no hassles, and by the time they'd normally be scrapping their second hand car, this time they'd have something just a few years old they could trade in towards the next one. John (my FIL is a member here), if you read this you should look at a petrol Dacia next. :p

OP, enjoy your new car!

Guys, what can i say..... Not much, absolutely perfect. I had years of fixing broken cars and had enough of my wife shouting at me "when will my car will be ready", "OMG i've broken down AGAIN" and "how am I gonna get the kids to school".

I posted this thread literally just to troll the many elitist ****** of this thread. Get a grip of your life...... Theres more to life than "how spec'd something is" or "why didn't you just get this for the same price"..... Its brand new, costing me less than i was folking out for my last piece of ****. Sometimes people just want something basic as basic can be, no frills, just straight forward buy what you see.

So far not a single person has made me regret my AMAZING purchase of my beastly Dacia Duster!

Tho... Agreeing with TW Fox has made me think if i'm actually in the right haha

Wtf are you blabbering on about? You blew a few grand on a Cat C shed and you can't understand why someone would buy a Dacia? Seriously? From that point of view, the Dacia is a much better car. Taking age in to account, it's probably better than your Skoda too. Granted more expensive, but if you just want a cheap runabout with warranty which can carry your family to Tesco without needing repairs every 500 miles, what's wrong with a Dacia? Different strokes for different folks. Some people take risks buying sheds, some like buying peace of mind.

If you can't understand that then I don't know really
This post sums up perfectly why every thread becoming Acme's Bible of "advice" and comparisons to his cars is just ridiculous.

I fail to see anything wrong whatsoever with the Dacia in the OP other than the issue of buying new vs buying nearly new for the potential cost savings whole still being in warranty.

Just because the majority of people in a car subforum on an already geeky and niche computer modding forum (does that not say it all?!) feel it doesn't meet their criteria doesn't make it a **** car.

There are a vast amount of people who couldn't care less what features a car has other than having 4 wheels, an engine and not spending more time in a garage than in use. My gf is one of such people, she has a 62 plate pre-facelift bottom of the range diesel fiesta. It's pretty gutless to drive and even manages to not have alloys, on a 62 plate! But you know what it does? It serves its purpose of getting her from home to work and the occasional long trip the length of Wales with no issues at all.

Not forgetting, Acme, that you appear to have the means to have a car sat in pieces on your drive if needs be and you'll get by. Some people don't have that luxury!
