Overwatch

People who say they "main" xxx player get my goat up the most.

Like someone else said you should pretty much be competent with 2 characters from each class. None of this 'I only play Genji' rubbish.

I've had enough of it tbh.

The game is not fun when you just lose due to people deliberately picking bad heroes or refusing to switch.

Just had a game with a McCree rank 3600 which I was like. Awesome. Turns out he had 3 hours played on that character and proceeded to refuse to switch costing us the game as he couldn't land a single pick where as their equally high ranked player was playing one of his most played characters.

The streaks are wierd. Started Season 2 and went 12-5, pretty good I thought. Then lost loads to around 15-18. Now I'm back up to 25-18.

Mind you, I've been playing Reinhardt a lot over the last few days. His Win % in S2 for me is 81%. I guess I should keep playing him and ride the winning streak!

Seems tonight is a night where matchmaking is ensuring I lose every, single, game.

This will be the second time I have peaked at 29xx and have to dump SR all the way back to 24xx because matchmaking says so. Just going to uninstall everything and anything Blizzard shortly.

Just stop playing after the 2nd loss in a row... some of it is the matchmaking but it becomes a terrible losing streak once you pile the pressure on yourself and tilt through a ton more games in the hope of getting a win...

Made it to 2877 last night *crosses-fingers*

Not really. I did have one guy during the countdown complaining because someone wouldn't change out of a character he didn't like. The match was 1-1 at the time. Called them a retard and said he would AFK in spawn. I pointed out that would make him the retard in a 1 all game and we carried on. (I think we won too) That's as close as I've gotten really. I do only play 2 or 3 games a night though.

Had a terrible losing streak last night (all deserved for one reason or another) and plummeted in rating. I think the last game cost me nearly 100 points!

Managed to win a few in a row after to claw a handful back. I don't really mind what my ranking is, but I worry that if I dip too low I may just end up getting less fun games.

the losses last night:
"the other team are better coordinated" which was fine

"it's close but they got their ults slightly quicker on the final push and they won 95/100" which was fine (and a really fun game)

"our four DPS players, who were grouped, all refused to change, and called the one healer a see-you-next-Tuesday for asking one to switch. They included Hanzo and Widow on attack. I was the tank." this was less fine, and annoyed me

"the enemy have a LOT of ults" - this was really odd. I'm tempted to call 'cheat' but given I was on a losing streak and a bit tilted, my judgement was probably a bit off. This enemy team seemed to ult ALL the time. On one round of KotH in Lijiang Tower Garden, their junkrat ulted before I reached line of sight of the control point, running straight there as zarya. I know it's theoretically possible if he pre-fired a lot and/or somehow bumped a couple of fast team members off the map or something, but we spent basically the whole round frozen by mei and exploded by junk. Absolutely miserable.

The wins, on the other hand, were all really close, fun matches, were all on payload maps, and were usually won by distance rather than checkpoints, they were that close. Nice chat in-team, enjoyable banter with the opposition. I think I may be predisposed to hate KotH maps, but they just seem less fun.

Was playing fir the first time in ages last night and decided to pop the performance monitor on to see what frame rate was like, was set to ultra at 1440p however when it got a bit hectic on screen it was dipping into the 40s?

Pretty certain on a 970 it is capable of maintaining this? Or is this the case

Debating getting a 1070 anyway but just wondering if i have issues elsewhere

OW is very CPU heavy, so it doesn't run too well at all even if you have a high end GPU. I have a 7970 (still decent today I guess) and I only get 120-140~ fps on the lowest settings, which can drop to 100 or so in fights.

Interestingly on my laptop with a 965m which significantly slower than my 7980, I get 100-120 fps. Probably because the laptop CPU is much better than my i5 2500k.

I'm SO CLOSE to diamond now... 2958, but been hovering between wins and losses so not quite closing it out...

Also Overbuff says I'm #910 Pharah in EU :D Woohoo!
Ooh nail biting close! Good luck :D

Does Overbuff take into account your rank vs rank skill level I wonder? As the general ability to aim increase up the ranks Pharrah slowly becomes a less sure pick as the general ability of the opponents to kill her skyrockets. Get a decent Roadhog whose hook accuracy is at 90% every game for example and the play style has to change dramatically to less effective killing sprees.

Also interesting that Masteroverwatch reports a different overall player rating.

I think probably overbuff/masteroverwatch etc. are only reporting the values out of the total players who have looked up their stats on those sites - so it's not truly out of "all players" (for instance it says I'm #910 as Pharah but also that the total number is ~110k and I'm fairly sure there must be more than that number of players...

You're right about Pharah though (in higher ranked games) - In general I pick her at the start and then either they have a player who can deal with it and I switch to someone else (normally Tracer) or they don't and I get to play :p

Welp I didn't make it to diamond over the weekend - peaked at 2986 and then dropped back to ~2600 and then climbed back to ~2850 and now at around ~2700 again...Sad times for sure but I'm hoping I can get there eventually, still plenty of time left...

Had a full 6-man team on Saturday night and it was awesome fun; that's definitely when the game is at it's best; no troll picks, no un-cooperative randoms just 2 teams of 6 trying their hardest
