Overwatch

Welp I didn't make it to diamond over the weekend - peaked at 2986 and then dropped back to ~2600 and then climbed back to ~2850 and now at around ~2700 again...Sad times for sure but I'm hoping I can get there eventually, still plenty of time left...

Had a full 6-man team on Saturday night and it was awesome fun; that's definitely when the game is at it's best; no troll picks, no un-cooperative randoms just 2 teams of 6 trying their hardest
Ah unlucky on not peaking through. I've gotten up to 3435 now hopefully I'll successfully push through tonight and then just play for fun again.

Have to keep telling my mate that if we lose two in a row I'm dropping out where usually we'd happily play for 4 or 5. He's gone from 2800 to 2500... Doesn't quite understand that rank 3500 gives an extra 800 CP. :p

Definitely worthwhile, have been trying to do this too (often just having a break to play a different game for a while then coming back allowed us to break the losing-streak even if only for 1 game)...

Timing is everything as well - a lot of the climbing (from ~2400 to just under ~3000) was done playing in a 2-man stack - just me and the fiancee, mostly between about 17:00 and 18:30 between work and dinner, on overbuff you could see the w/l stats for the sessions: 2-0, 5-0, 4-1 etc. almost streaked the whole way... Most of the losses were playing over the weekend in the afternoon and evening with varying amounts of people (anything from us 2 right through to a 6-man, although with the 6-man we won most of the games)

Haven't played in a while and had a quick whirl on Sunday. Did I miss an update or something because a Zarya I was against seemed to have 100% charge at all times! They spawned, flanked us and just as I was ready to take them on they had the glowing effect on them that said they were on 100% charge and proceeded to destroy us.

Zarya can pick up charge FAST.

If she shields herself and an ally, and rein throws a fireball through both, she can theoretically get up 100 in one go (it hits each shield on the way in and on the way out for 2 x 2 x 25.

Hard to do, but it's possible.

Everyone in my games always blames Junkrat for charging up Zarya, but sub-plat where I am everyone spams her shields anyway.

You are completely right about timing.

I've found late nights are by far the best as you get older games usually who are far more willing to communicate or fill spots. The games I get after work until 9pm can be anywhere from great to completely horrendous.

Junkrat feeds Zarya to no end even where I am (3400s) as it's practically impossible not to. You get reins even dropping shields briefly when shielded to gain her charge depending on opponents setup. Her damage can be pretty immense if she's fed.

I play Zarya a fair bit too... the top things are as you say Reinhardt's fireball thing, junkrat grenades you can just jump into for charge and of course if the other team has a Symettra spamming orbs it's just too easy to walk into them...

It's not always a mistake to shoot Zarya's shields though - if she's low health (which she should be if she has shielded herself) and over-extended or not close enough to safety then there's nothing wrong with 2 or 3 players focusing her down - the shield gives out after 200 dmg which is easy if you've got a few people hitting her

Just had an amusing game where I was playing Support as Ana holding back a little and making sure everyone was staying alive. One guy is screaming at us down the mic saying "Why are you guys not healing?" (other guy was a Lucio). We were like "Hardly anyone on our team has died hence why we have 75%/5% on the point. What more do you want us to do?!".

Why does the game even bother?

This is my experience as well.

Played a few games last night at ~5pm. In comp, I was added to a team of 4 playing together, who all went DPS every game (circa 2400 rank). It did not go well. I chose a healer and the other person chose a tank, but Hanzo/Genji/Tracer/junkrat wanted to run in one at a time, no coordination, would not join voice comms, would not stand behind rein's shield. Hopeless and frustrating games.

Got fed up, went for a run, re-joined at ~6:30. Nice, chatty folks who discussed composition and changed on the fly. Several close but enjoyable games. Overall slight climb in ranking. I hope I can break 2500 before season end for the extra points!

1600 down from 2200 saysone#2268 been solo queuing all season it hasn't gone well.

I'm stuck in the 1600-1700 range too, also solo queue.
Some of it is down to my teammates, but some of it is down to the fact that I suck. I'd like to think I'm a little better than that but breaking 2000 is the dream for me.

No, he isn't the top 3% mate :D He is at the other end of the scale.

Don't know how he can keep solo queuing into that toxicity :D
Ooops read that completely wrong. Mid-afternoon caffeine high clearly. :p

I have friends at a similar level and I know they're not bad players. ELO hell. You can't win when it's 5v6 as someone trys to play symettra on attack.

Anecdotal only, but I've won with attack symmetra. Not like it's reliable, but it's not an auto-loss either.
Yeah I've had a team in the 3000s win with symettra, bastion, torb picks once. Silly can win if people refuse to adapt to it but I'm just generalising as I'm sure you appreciate :p

I've totally given up getting annoyed at questionable picks... it's just not worth focusing on and will likely just tilt you further (and/or your team if you start drawing further attention to it)... Far better to give people a chance and they can really surprise you sometimes - yes, even Torb!

Can think of several cases of winning and losing to a Bastion on a KOTH map, an attack Symmetra, etc. Often when someone is picking something weird they seem to know how to play them (not always of course, but still)... Or you can just adjust your play around their pick - someone wants to go Bastion on KOTH? Try to pick Zarya + Winston or Rein and focus on using your respective shields to help him survive...

Zenyatta. AI kills me all the time. However when I play him I can't hit anything much. At least no 1-2 shot kills he always seems to get.
