Poll: VW ragged my Golf R

What should the OP do?

Going double the speed limit on a public road in a customer's car is simply not on in my opinion regardless of what type of car it is.

I would probably show the manager/dealer principle.

I would be annoyed with how he is keeping close to that Fiesta really. I think I'd rather not have a dash cam as someone else said, what you can't see can't make you uptight. End of the day if it bothers you, being your pride and joy, let that dealership know :)

We do have some idiots within this thread though I have to say :D A Golf R *is* a sporty motor, AND far better than a Honda Jazz.

Comparing a bike to a car. Brilliant. Then again I'd rather have a nice new car that's fast rather than an old cheap bike.
I don't think there's anyway you can call a Golf R slow. 4.9 to 60 is fast by pretty much anyone's standards.

yes exactly, the WRX STI is about the same and that's definitely fast
a bike is simply too dangerous, it's as simple as that really

that's equally idiotic too ;) a Jazz isn't supposed to be fast, it's a cheap runabout for going shopping............a fair comparison would be their Type R

The thing that put me off bikes is that you can be the best bike rider in the world, and some idiot in a car will still kill you.
Hate the things!!

Seems like a few squirts of the throttle to enjoy the engine/transmission and nothing more. The road was a 40 during the bits where he sped through for a small amount of time, but the road was also free of much traffic and wasn't burning through the bends either.

Seems fine to me! How many miles was the total drive for you to notice a sizeable drop in fuel? Even if I drive 10 miles like that, the fuel gauge won't go down much to warrant getting suspicious.

I'm more concerned about the the music choice and the volume of it!

he hasn't taken any risks.

He was doing nearly 80mph in a 40mph, what if a family had have been out cycling, what if people had have pulled out at a junction. Most people have jobs and existences which means that driving is the only real opportunity they have to kill someone through their actions, they seem to forget that a lot.

My thoughts are:
Anyone who thinks it's acceptable for a VW employee to drive my car like that is wrong.
Anyone who thinks it's acceptable to do those speeds is wrong.
Having said that nobody died, I didn't get a nip and I won't report it as he'll lose his job for sure, which I wouldn't want.
If he picks the car up next time I'll have a word.

I'd call them up and ask to speak to the driver directly (say you need to check something with them or whatever), explain to the driver you have dashcam footage of what happened but in this instance you're not going to report them hence speaking to them directly rather than a manager, but in future they should look after other people's cars and not do double the limit.

No one gets sacked and the driver gets a telling off. Suggest he refill your tank as an apology too :p.

I think "have a word" needs to be split in two:

Have a gentle word, reminding them about speed limits.
Have a stern word, trying to get "compensation".

Clearly no-one should be voting for the second of those two options, but the first might be OK depending on how you approach it.

I think I'd casually mention that I'd seen footage of the driver going "considerably faster" than the speed limit, but not actually expect much in the way of reprimand.

Having a word can mean having a gentle word or going in guns blazing, but the OP wanted to know if he should do something or not.. hence the black and white nature of the options. People can interpret the "have a word" option how they want and back it up with a response if they feel they need to.

I was tempted to add "report the Fiesta for no tax" but knew it would get abused :p

I mean having a word with the actual driver rather than the dealership, if he picks the car up next time.

Aren't you that poster who used to be called Robbie G? Didn't you used to get off on the fact you had a Golf? If so I can see why this driving might be like stamping on baby kittens to you.

My username used to be Robbie G, yes, and I still own that Golf :D. 'Get off' might be a bit strong, there's only mild arousal when I hear the *thunk* of the door closing.

I ride a motorbike so no amount of Golf is going to excite me. Doesn't mean I'd want my own car used for breaking the law though.

Gibbo represents his employer in everything he posts in public that identifies him as an employee of OcUK, whether his fan club likes it or not. Perhaps you missed that memo at your own place of work?

The fact that he openly condones ignoring 50mph speed limits is crass at best.

No I speak my mind and will continue to do so. :)

I don't believe for a second that someone who takes the amount of extreme and obsessive level of care for their car such as you would accept and dismiss the footage if that featured your car.

Infact I'm sure we'd have a 30+ page thread detailing every development :D
