RSR Nurburg

I did my first laps in July, think I did 6 in the end and got into the mid 8's with huge speed to be had with track knowledge. First timed lap was a 9:09 with massive slow downs to let stuff past. My car really flatters you and has epic pace on the straight bits, I saw over 150mph twice but pace there comes from knowledge and that takes time, commitment and nuts. My advice is go, enjoy and leave the timings off for the first lap. I actually didn't time a single lap, just my passengers did usually without me knowing!
 
Wow that was some angry constantly on the attack stuff :O really gives you an idea of the complexities of the surface and elevation changes though.
 
Yep. Something that even today mainstream "simulators" cannot simulate.

Not long now.
 
Yeah was looking the other day for games/simulations that had decent physics and laser scanned version of the Nordschleife but they are either not available to the public or only available as part of a full hardware + software installation costing thousands.

Assetto Corsa / iRacing? Physics are pretty decent and laser scanned.
 
Don't think any currently have a proper laser scanned version of Nordschleife (though they do of other tracks) due to licensing or something.
 
Track in Assetto Corsa seems to be pretty much spot on to what I remember - even the nasty undulating bit near the end. I certainly wouldn't want to be trying it at any decent pace in a faster vehicle IRL lol.

The problem with the Ring is that it's so large that it could be bone dry in one place and soaking wet in another, and you won't know until you've gone and done it. There's also so much elevation change that you can start the lap in the fog and be in the sunshine by the halfway point.

This video is well worth a watch for first timers and even relatively inexperienced people.

Thanks for posting this vid. I found it really useful. I had no idea there were exits off of the track!

AC is pretty much perfect atleast as my memory goes - with the temperature and surface condition dialled in its as close as any video game is gonna get as makes any odds - gives me a new found perspective of how close to disaster that Alfa Romeo Giulia video is at times :S

I think you should watch them, keeps you grounded. I did.

Did a lap on a bike this year, and whilst it was an experience I was very much aware just how vulnerable I was and just how easy death or serious injury could have been.

I am more than fine with saying I pussied out on the carousels (Smooth tarmac for me thanks) and took a very very easy lap which is effectively a sighting lap on your first go round. Did not time it and did not care to get into any plays with other vehicles. I saw two motorbikes in the gravel in the single lap I went around, the track was closed for more than it was open to recover large crashes in the few hours I was there and the rain came without warning, luckily I was off track by then.

It's an amazing place, but just be grown up about it.

PS - For the love of god, don't time yourself. Low times come with track experience which you won't have. Pushing for a time will increase risk of mistakes.
