RSR Nurburg

Nothing wrong with timing yourself - just don't expect or push for a quick time on a public day :S

Won't link due to language but is this footage from the OP's day out? :P

Thanks for all the advice guys. I went last month with the other half. I'll try to do a full write up this weekend.

I cannot stop thinking about the place. I'm in love lol.

Or this recent rental :p

Saw that video yesterday - for some reason loads of people were screwing up on that bit around the same time as that incident at the same place (which is generally not a problem) dunno if it was damp or oil or something.

hired a golf nk3 gti diesel (german market thing i think) amongst other things and got a little over confident in it and managed to bin it doing some trail braking.

was something like 1300 euros bill from the track for safety car and replacing a few m of armco. There was a 25 euro charge for printing the invoice ffs!

Then as the golf was only 3rd party I had another 4000 euro bill for that.

Very expensive short holiday!

Jesus Christ......

Would you go again?

that was 9 years ago now, have been a couple of times since. Also now married, so have someone to answer to if this happened again! Equally got green light from the boss to hire a swift last time I was there, and no damage!:D

Day 1

We (I dragged the other half with me) land in Frankfurt at around 10am local time. We flew from Stanstead with Ryan Tightass Airlines. Unfortunately, I wasn't allowed to take collection of my rental car for at least another hour :(.

Fast forward 60 mins. And I am now the proud owner of a manual (I'll never drive a right hand manual car again) Citroen Cactus. Onwards to Nurburg!

A little over an hour later, I'm driving past the main entrance to the Nurburgring complex. I couldn't believe I was actually there. It felt weird. I'm so use to seeing this place online.

A few yards on and I'm turning onto a small road which leads to the town of Nurburg :) . I have finally arrived!

We stayed at this really nice hotel called Zur Burg. The rooms were well equipped. Comfy beds, TV, WIFI and all that other goodness.

The thing that surprised me on arrival was how quiet the place was. Really peaceful. I expected the place to be buzzing.

View from our room's balcony

Once settled we went for a stroll. Before heading over to RSR. I thought it would be a good idea to grab something to eat - I was starving. I forget the name of the place we went to. It was one of the establishments a few doors down from the BMW Test Centre.... Pit stop or something. The food was delicious. And the beer was just as good.... And that is coming from someone who seldom drinks beer.

With food out of the way. I wanted to locate RSR. So I knew where to head for the following day's activities!

During our stroll to RSR I come across these two specimens

Renn Taxi offer a lap of the 'Ring from 200euros. So I head in to have a word. One of the owners come out to greats us. And advises us to come back at around 1630 as the track doesn't open to the public until around 1700. For some reason I thought it was open throughout the day.

So we find RSR and head back to the hotel for a snooze. We wake at 1700. I look out of the window and the town is beaming with activity. Cars of all shapes and sizes flowing in one direction. By this time we had already missed our opportunity to meet up with the people at Renn Taxi. So we head to RSR to enquire about a ring taxi lap. 5 mins later we're chilling at the entrance to the Nordschilefe!

We would be going out in the BMW M3

By far this is the best way to experience the ring for the first time. Having a true expert take you around...

I'll update this post throughout the day!

Day 1.2

We jump into the M3 and head out to the entrance to the 'Ring. Upon arrival the RSR rep jumps out of the car. He says he won't be driving. And that one of their partners will take us out instead. It turns out to be the owner of Renn Taxi - the company offering rides from 200euros a lap. I paid RSR 300 EUROS :/ .

Anyway as well head out onto the straight I realise three things:

1. The track is much wider than I had imagined
2. I shouldn't have eaten so much and
3. I am bloody terrified.

The amount of G Force delivered through the corners was at times painful. And there were times when I actually thought I would through up - if not for my pride I would post the vid on here. Lol it's priceless!

All previous knowledge of the track had disappeared. All those hours spent driving on this track in games. Gone in a flash. By the end of the lap I was stunned.. Stunned and worried... Worried because tomorrow (on the day of my birth) I would be doing at least one lap of the 'Ring!

Lol I'll show a couple of vids. Neither of them will involve my facial expressions. I couldn't believe they filmed the whole thing lol.

Day 2

A few days before heading out to Germany I had booked RSR's First Timers Package. Which involves the following:

*Tour Car - They have a wide array of cars to take out. I had originally chosen the Porsche GT4. Unfortunately a few days before heading out. I received news the car had been damaged. So I opted for the E92 M3 instead.

*Track car - I had chosen a LHD Fiesta ST.....

I'll explain how I ended up in this later.

*Backstage tour of the Nurburgring track and museum.

Crazy moment involving this truck. There I was fast asleep in out hotel room. When I'm woken up by this loud beeping noise. So I look outside to find that very truck trying to park in the hotels car park lol. Madness

The tour was really good. Learned a lot about it's history.

*A tour of the Nordschleife's surrounding areas.

This part of the tour was very interesting. We were given tips on how best to tackle some of the corners. And just little fun facts about the area. The size of the track is truly amazing. It's filled with little towns!

I love this stuff!

*Lunch at sabine schmitz family run restaurant

*Up to three laps on the 'Ring. First lap of with an instructor.

At around 1600 hours were summoned to RSR's meeting area. It's time for the briefing.

This was basically RSR's opportunity to let us drivers know what we were about to let ourselves in for!

With that out of the way it was time to go out in my fiesta st... Unfortunately the car had accidentally been hired out to someone else. And the only LHD car available was a twingo rs :)

Lap 1 was with an instructor:

Intimidating. The pace of some of the cars was unreal... Obviously being in something like a Twingo didn't help matters lol.

One moment you notice the smallest glare or twinkle in the rear view mirror. Two seconds latter the mirror is filled with something like a BMW or Porchse getting ready to eat you alive lol.

Anyway by the end of my first lap. I didn't really feel comfortable going out by myself. I asked whether I could have one more lap with the instructor. Apparently this isn't allowed. So I paid to have another session on day 3!

By the end of the second lap I felt confident enough to go out alone.
