Was going to change the pads, I took it all apart started cleaning the calipers and the rain just start pee'ing down hard...

How common is it for bikes to not have an oil plug? With the nuda you need to drain it by removing the filter and letting it drain that way, no biggie.

It's all empty now, oil is a lot thicker than what I'm changing it for, some websites say to fill the oil filter before fitting, I take it that's to stop air getting trapped?

You don't need to fill the filter before, but it means when you start the engine up, it's less likely you'll then have to fill it further with oil (there's a few hundred ml in the filter, so when it gets pulled through, the level of oil in the engine drops, so you have to put more in).

On both my bike I can't fill before putting the filter on as they're horizontal.

If your filter is vertical (upside down, i.e. screw on to bottom of engine), you may as well fill it. Don't forget to put oil round the rim as well and if you can't get a torque wrench in there, just do the filter up as tight as you can with your hand, no more.

I don't think they could have made it any harder to unscrew the oil filter, hidden behind the downpipe.

I've got big hands and I need the tool to remove it.

lol yup, same as on my Hornet. I just have to undo it with a normal spanner, let it leak all over the downpipes and clean up afterwards.

Make sure you get a filter with socket thingy on it next time, makes it easier to get off.

Hmm that is difficult, looks like you'd only be able to get 2-3 fingers on the thing.

I reckon get one of those strap removal tools? Sucks to have to spend money on it as you'll just get filters with sockets from now on, but you might have to.

Some people hammer a screwdriver in and remove it that way, normally when they seize, but it should work in your case as well. Messy, but should work without spending money.

Your downpipes need a clean or you need the titanium ones :p
