Desk Chair

Mrk you really should just splash out on a Steelcase Leap or something, it's not like you can't afford one. :p

Or better yet, why not try a Hag Capisco?

Someone who moved from sitting on a damp floor to sitting on a packing crate won't have "sat in better" either, so it's not a ringing endorsement :p

Perhaps your back issues are more sever than most people who also have back issues?

Personally, I've had the Markus for some time and have never had to get up off it due to issues. I actually like the mesh back that seems to form itself around my back as I lean back as opposed to hard back chairs that are quite stiff.

Currently testing the noblechairs real leather one, and it's pretty supportive, like sitting in a car seat from a premium marque. I also like the armrest, which I think are often overlooked by people who buy cheaper chairs without this feature. Being able to adjust the pivot, strafe and height of the armrest is pretty vital for ideal arm positioning.

As I sit here right now using the mouse, the height of the armrest is set to the same as my desk, so my arms have a soft rest to be level with rather than no place to rest them fully.

I do prefer chairs with mesh back, though. I like the "breathable" backrest in those chairs. I'll be looking to upgrade to one of those ergonomic ones with a skeleton spine behind a mesh back. not cheap, but worth it in the long run.

Sorry, they are a cheap chair, aesthetically pleasing but not a good chair. Now that doesn't mean you can't find them fine or comfy, but let's not mistake that for them being the ultimate chair for everyone. I found it terrible, another member on here the same a few days back I was reading, did the same, got rid after his back began to hurt. I use my chairs a lot, could be for 12 hours a day, even more and in that usage pattern they are garbage.

Wat. There's a 'plus' version which removes all the padding and is solid plastic, not the one I linked though.

I kid :p

Yes it is a cheap chair, what isn't from Ikea anyway? But it's also a decent chair. If it was as poor as you say, it simply would not be as big a hit as it is. That's not to say you are wrong, it just means your back (along with a few others here and there) doesn't gel with this particular chair. It's as easy as that.

Herman Miller Aeron :p

I'm preferring the Mirra 2 myself. I like the "breathable" design and the way it bends with you.

Meaningless, but a fact I guess if you say so. If I have only driven crap cars then one of those crap cars will be the best I've ever driven.

You guess it's a fact? Yes you guessed right. It's a thread where you give opinions on chairs and it's the best one I've sat in. It seems your brain is unable to comprehend that. Why is that?

If I had a brain like yours I'm sure my life would be more successful and fuller.

I have an Aeron and the Mirra 1. I prefer the Mirra as it has an adjustable front, the Aeron doesn't but both are a country mile ahead of the Ikea one, but cost twice to 4 times more. I guess I could buy 4 and sell them to make a loss and then buy a better one? Oh, wait...

Have you tried a leap v1? How does it compare to the HM ones?

For what is is worth, a guy on youtube did extremely detailed reviews of the Gesture and Leap (over half an hour long). He prefers the Leap, but will end up selling both. He also tried an Embody as well.

He ended up going for the Hag Capisco that I posted earlier. Why? Because he didn't want a chair that let him get lazy and 'sink' into a comfortable position for hours; no matter what chair you have or how good it is. this is bad. Lack of movement is the killer. The Capisco encouraged him to continually change positions every so often, which is what you want.

Found it all fairly interesting.

Not that I could comment on with any authority no. I have had many chairs over the years and spend my life in offices and board rooms so have sat in 1000's of different ones over 30 years of business. Experience has shown me that for prolonged use, by that I mean every day for long periods, a true quality chair has to be adjustable in lumber, arm rest height, front, height and angle, weight balance and width. The Markus has up and down and a back that moves back but has terrible seat that offers no real support and caused me coccyx pain after 3 months, really painful. Now the reason for this is not the seat, which has cheap padding, it's because the Markus offers no support for your pelvis and therefore a weakness in that area will be uncovered in weeks. For many people this is not an issue but for people who have a weakness there it shows how poorly configured the Markus is, it's a cheap char built for market, let's not confuse that with being good. The HM chairs I have support me and my approach was to visit them in their London HQ and sit in loads of them to establish which ones I wanted and buy. I have an Aeron in my kitchen, Mirra in my home office and Aeron in my office in London. For me they are superb and I know others don't like them but they are a high quality product with a lot of adjustment to support the person sitting on them. I believe the Leap does offer adjustments, but I bought HM because I could and they gave me support. When I had the Markus I was visiting my back mane monthly to be straightened and after 3 months the only thing that had changed was me seat. Got rid of the Markus to a colleague, gave it away, and now 4 years in I have not needed my back man because I have a quality chair again.

I didn't like the Embody, just didn't feel as comfy in a short trial.
