Note 7 Alternatives - Pixel XL or iPhone 7 Plus?

It's the otherway round for me.

OLED, Fast charging, Android...3.5mm Jack :p

Out of all of that OLED and usb c would be the only positive, I like Android don't get me wrong but prefer IOS.

I prefer the look of the 7 plus and the twin cam feature, also my 6s charges fast with my ipad charger but slow as **** with the lame supplied one. I still don't get why apple supplier that crappy charger.

I've gone to an iPhone 7 Plus after the Note 7 episode. For me, knowing it will still be getting software updates for years and regular security patches swung it for me. Also, I got an Apple Watch; so much more functional than Android Wear but x10 more fuggly as a device.

I posted this a few hours ago on the Pixel thread and there are some useful comments, videos and stills from a guy who has already received and unboxed and spent time with his Pixel in Australia. He posted it all to Reddit. It seems Telstra, their exclusive Pixel operator there, accidentally released Pixels pre-ordered to customers ahead of the 20 October release date (why could it not have happened here as my pre-order for a Pixel XL was the date it was released last week to pre-order!). Anyway, if you have time to go through this link I think you all will find some useful answers to why Pixel!

what do you think?

Glad I don't like phablets. I would obviously choose the pixel but it is really ugly and probably doesn't have the camera of the Samsung phones. Shame Samsung failed with the note.

Even though it isn't an option is go with the edge (I have it) but obviously isn't big

Your right it doesn't have the camera of the Samsung phones it actually scored higher in testing. :p

I thought about pre ordering the Note 7 on contract, in the end I decided it wasn't worth the cost and ordered a OnePlus 3 outright.

Another alternative, especially if you don't like curved screens and want to stay with android. A nice saving too.

Get another Note 5 - sorted.

It did cross my mind but I couldn't bring myself to pay £500 for a phone I sold a few weeks earlier for a fair bit less.
out of interest what happened to people that had one on a contract?

Phone goes back and contracts cancelled. Speaking for myself, Vodafone refunded me for the cost of the contract for the time I had the phone too but I know others on here have said they're not getting refunded for the month or 2 they had the handset, they're just getting any up front fee they paid back.

While you are deciding between various alternatives including the Pixel, I note that someone who ordered the Pixel XL 128 GB yesterday in the Play Store received an estimated delivery date of late November.

That suggests to me that with the qualities of the Pixel and the "carpet bombing" ad display by Google all over, esp in London, that demand for the Pixel will far exceed expectations. In other words, the Pixel may well prove to be a really hot item leading up to Christmas.

Don't be surprised. Just sayin....

The last 5 that have come up on Gumtree have been between £360 to £390.
Yes I know it's Gumtree but I've never had a problem because I go to their house, never anywhere else.

Have an iPhone 7 plus now, came from a Note 5. First thing you will notice and keep noticing every time you watch a video are the blacks.. or should I say greys :p . Any time a video comes up which has borders... my heart dies. The screen is not as nice, no matter what some online testing to xyz standards tells you.

Few notes.

Note 5 loaded both youtube and facebook quicker, not helped by ios/iPhone 7 wifi problems.Missing the quick launch cam.

Seems I am using mostly google services on the iPhone as the ios version aint as good, Google inbox, Google calender and maps are all way better than ios crud.

7 Plus has some sort of battery voodoo, you wake up in the morning with the same battery you went bed with :p charges slower than slow.

7 speakers are nice

The 7 is also a huge phone for the 5.5 screen

Android is a easier os to use.. for instance changing video/cam res means closing cam app and hunting around the main settings menu??

I ordered mine from CPW on Friday and they gave me a delivery date of this Thursday.

I'm always wary of buying 2nd hand phones. If I were going to pay close to £400 for a used one then I'd rather pay the extra £100 and get it new.

I'm actually tempted to try the HTC 10.

If I'm not keen, I'll give it to the wife and get myself something else. Maybe prices on Pixel XL 128GB will come down too. My music collection is about 60GB and growing so either need 128GB or SD card slot...

Had my heart set on the Note 7 (coming from Note 3) and nothing seems to come close.

If you guys think dxo and testing attributes to real world you should look again.
For example low light is probably my main issue. And s7 apparently does better here. In samples it certainly looks better too

It's often personal preference. The s7 creates a a warmer look vs cool from samples I've seen and has a closer minimum focus distance.
It's camera app is also very good.

Also f1.7 is a nice aperture

The pixel has bigger pixels. Its nice to finally see manufacturers leaving the MP race
