**** The Official Samsung Galaxy S7/Edge Thread ****

Mi5s meant to have same camera as the pixel which scored higher than the s7 on dxomark

Surprising results if they are the same camera.

I don't think you can call 1 point higher a valuable difference :p Hell even google don't think it is, hence why they left the S7 DXO result out of their announcement graph.

My point being, in the video the s7 beat the mi5s (imo)

Could the dxomark score be wrong or biased in anyway towards the pixel?

Software/driver optimisation is just as important as the hardware for camera quality and Google have come a long way in that department and chances are, they are doing a better job than xiaomi I.e. their hdr+ mode is by far the best compared to other phones hdr mode.

I don't put much faith in dxomark either, their results are always dubious at best i.e. XZ3, XZ 5 etc. yet the majority of users hated it for photos

Exactly, hardware is only half the story. Plus the S7 camera is great and all but it still over saturates and over sharpens a bit too much now and again for my liking.

Something else killing my battery quickly now. Last month it was the oculus thing so I uninstalled that. Now I'm getting the same type of drain. Any ideas?

Yep, it's just the sensor that's the same. All the sensor does is capture a raw image, it's down to the rest of the hardware (lens, usually an image processor and occasionally in phones OIS) and the software (processing algorithms, noise reduction, sharpening, calibration and EIS) to create the final photo or video.

It sounds as though Google really trumped everyone in video stabilisation this time, which was probably the weakest part of the camera in the 6P.

So just went for it and bought an S7 Edge. Coming from iPhone 6 Plus. Have had iPhones since the iPhone 4 in 2010.

Just felt like a change and adore the design of the edge. It pretty much sold me on that point alone. The Google Pixel looks cool but I still feel the edge is the one to go for still.

I've got a sim only EE deal so will just swap sim card from my iPhone and place it in S7 Edge.

Got my wireless charger too. Seems like a cool and convenient feature. Is it pretty fast to charge? And can it charge with a case on? I've got the official Samsung clear view cover one.

Get the phone tomorrow. Bit nervous about the transition.... will use the Samsung transfer software to move everything across. Then install all my most used iOS apps.

Is there an android equivalent of "Find my iPhone" for iPhones? I've actually used that a few times over the years and managed to retrieve my phone using it! Am far less clumsy these days though.

Also:

1) What's the best Podcast app for android (I really do like the Apple one on iOS but am sure there must be equivalent android ones)

2) Can I sync pictures I take on the phone to something similar to iCloud so it appears on my PC desktop? Google Drive do it?

I have a spigen case on my phone and it still charges ok wirelessly.

I use doggcatcher for podcasts, had zero issues with it, used to use it on my note 2 waaaay back and now have it on my S7 edge too.

Pretty sure you can set up google drive to sync pics but I haven't done that myself.

I too have gone from an IP6+ to an S7 edge and I don't regret it one bit, I find it refreshing to switch between the different OS's :)

Nice one thanks! I'll try doggcatcher.

Yeah I intend to keep the iPhone 6 Plus and perhaps swap the sim back to it now and then.

Any ideas on what could be killing my battery?

It shows as
Google photos
Android OS
Android system

The Google Photos thing is weird as I cant see it open and it has never been a ptoblem before.

Having exactly the same issue here - my S7E has been pretty much superb on battery since new, but now getting major battery drain and the usual alleged culprit is Google Photos, although Android OS/System crops up in the power usage too. Added to that, the phone was often quite warm, as if it had been busy.....

Have tried many things, but with no success - usage hasn't changed, which makes it all the more annoying - although I tried this morning to Uninstall Google Photos.......so, this only removes updates et al., back to default app, and then I Updated it via the Google Store.......and, for the last hour at least, battery consumption has slowed. Too early to call it a success, but the seems promising......

keep me posted as this is doing my head in. Ive gone from being able to get 36 hours from a full charge to having to charge it 3 times yesterday.

If you've allowed it to install/update any oculus software there was a bug in it that throttles the hell out of the phone...a fix is mentioned on the oculus forum somewhere. If that's not your problem i've no idea.

Right, well, re-updating didn't work but uninstalling all updates to Google Photos and turning off auto-update in the Store has! Seems this is affecting others - reddit and report is on Google product page
