Cheerio 980Ti

you know what you could be right.people mocked the 970 its 2 years old and still plays everything at 1080 maxxed.so really its been a great card.

another year in one yet.so 3 years at max settings at 1080 is pretty good for a card people claim is gimped.

see if a 480 is doing that for 3 years ;)

Well the 290 is now faster and is a year older and it comes with full speed Vram. It's a year older and actually seems to support dx12 unlike the gtx970 so imo it's a better card.

For 1080p, you can't go wrong with the 970. As for the 480, it'll end up being used to heat homes ;) Just like the 290 was/is!

See above :D.

Some people saying the 780ti but AMD's cards of the time are still current with DX12 and faster in dx11 so i wouldn't consider it a great card. I think the cards of the past like the 9700/9800/8800gtx were way better than what we get these days. The impact in visuals these cards gave are all superior to the latest gens.

yes and you spent two years with a fire extinguisher at side of it ;):p could do with one now though with winter drawing in :D

R.I.P 980ti retail sales, but not the card, not yet. It's still a strong card, especially overclocked. I've had mine for over a year and barring the ludicrous Titan XP I still don't feel like there's a decent upgrade path. By the time the 1080ti finally turns up it won't be long until Volta arrives. So it looks like 980ti owners can reasonably skip this gen altogether. Not bad at all.

As far as the best card of all time goes, for me it has to be the 8800GTX. That thing was amazing.

Maybe if i had a reference cooler but we all know that with a decent cooler no fire extinguisher is needed. Correct though with winter coming it's not a bad thing having some serious heat output. It's most likely way cheaper than turning on the heating.

Not sure greatest ever I have RMA'd 4 of them now in the last 16 months. All got replaced no hassle under warranty. All 4 burnt out. The last one burnt out a few weeks ago after a year of running perfectly it suddenly died without warning just waiting for the RMA replacement to be delivered tomorrow hopefully :)

I have to wonder if these parts were only designed to last a certain timespan......

I enjoyed 10 days with my 980Ti Super Jetstream before it bit the dust! It was a good card and ran well at 1500mhz for 1440p but it was quite a bit hotter than the 1070 Gaming X I have now so I certainly won't miss that.

You must both be unlucky. I've had mine for about 18 months now and it's still going strong. I've not overclocked it though, so that could be a contributing factor.

My GTX 670 lasted over 4 years in use so my 980 Ti has a couple of years yet to catch up for value over time. The i5 3570k that drove the GTX 670 is still going strong in my 2nd PC.

Almost started badly as mine was a present from my sis in the states that got left on the tarmac (in a suitcase of course!) in Orlando by the airline! Managed to get it flown over the next day and picked it up personally rather than loose it again in transit.

The 9700pro was probably the most awe-inspiring card released compared to what was available at the time, quickly replaced by the 9800pro which was only slightly better. I still have my HIS card somewhere.

The original R480 chip, none of this new nonsense. I'm talking about a sweet old thing known as the X850 XT Platinum Edition. That thing was a beast and toasted nvidias offerings at the time.

Seems 980Ti's finally bit the bullet on the website sales page!!! The greatest GPU ever?

So great I ordered one and it was out of stock just before I could get sent one...

The 1080ti needs to work miracles to beat the impact of the 980ti. Part of the popularity was the Titan X performance at a fraction of the cost. Or even better if you got a 980ti that overclocked well. These days it's looking like a regular x80 is becoming the Titan...

I'll still buy the first card that can solidly claim 60fps at 4k in almost all games. Titan XP is close, but no cigar.
