Turning it off ingame usually isn't necessary but can ensure best compatibility.
Can also give fast a try with recent drivers. The V-Sync on and off option does something different when you have G-Sync enabled compared to what it does when G-Sync is disabled.
They are probably not using exclusive fullscreen mode and/or some form of borderless window mode - you can enable fullscreen and window mode G-Sync usually to get them playing ball.

I have an XL2730z with Freesync and I usually have Vsync off in games.....all except one....actually it's two....they are the newer Wolfenstein games, The New Order and The Old Blood, where I was getting screen tear and I don't know why. I switched VSync on and it was smooth as silk. I have never had to switch VSync on in any game apart from those two, which are obviously running on the same engine etc..
Does anyone know why this is the case with those games?![]()
