But the relevant figure to my mind is not the actual number of deaths, it is the number of "Murderous Assaults" (For which no clear figure is provided) Medical intervention is far better than it was in the past, even over the last ten years I would expect that people survive today who would not have done so 10 years ago.

It's ironic that part of the reason for this is the knowledge gained from the amount of Murderous Assaults gone by by medical staff

Why is that? Given names what would you do about it? I voted yes, my posts and many others with an opinion of either side, put their views alongside their forum names. I find your comment as a moderator somewhat intriguing, if not plain irritating.

Please explain your post.

Why are you assuming that any of FT's post is related to his moderator role?

Rare moment here, because I'm going to be completely serious.

In the video, Priti describes using capital punishment as a deterrent - I think however that's the wrong approach. While I don't think rapists deserve the death penalty (as horrible as the crime is, I don't think it's worthy of capital punishment unless the person committing the crime is particularly sadistic) - The capital punishment idea should be reserved for people that have shown a blatant disregard for human life...So in the case of Peter Sutcliffe, Myra Hindley, Fred West and even the Krays? Absolutely. I find the idea that they were allowed to walk on the earth for so long due to progressive ideology untenable.

To be clear, I am also an ardent supporter of Euthanasia.

I am a constant advocate of an overhaul of the sentencing system; sex offenders for example should be required to submit to chemical castration and therapy.

This is a black and white issue for me. The state should not be doing this, period. It is so diminishing to all. There are mistakes of course as well.

However, if there is to be a death penalty, it ought to be inventive and spectacular.

For example -

- squashing between two great blocks on rails

- pulling apart by chimpanzees

- boiling in a large cauldron ( with vegetables and stock )

I'm against the death penalty but I am a big supporter of assisted suicides/euthanasia. But the two aren't even remotely the same other than the final destination.

I wasn't trying to suggest they are the same. Simply that some posters seem to find it abhorrent, for reasons of morality, that the state should be able to kill someone. Certainly the death penalty and euthanasia evoke different emotions and the circumstances around the decision would be different. However, irrespective of a criminal facing the death penalty or a terminal patient asking assisted suicide, the state will still decide on and ultimately carry out the killing of a person.

As a kid I remember watching the old 1930's Tarzan episodes and in one they had 2 palm trees bent over and the victim tied in the middle arm and leg on each tree. He was then ripped in two when they cut the trees free.

That'd be a good way too :p

Speedball?

voted yes.

too many in jail, turns to no rehab, which leads to more crime.

I think there is a big difference between executing the very worst of the worst, and just bumping off people to make prison space...

you are suggesting we bring in execuation for pretty much everything?

I think this thread is a good example of why this should never, ever be put to any sort of referendum. The amount of ignorance is astounding.

Anyone been on that website where you can read the last statements of prisoners on death row? Cant remember what its called. Hauntingly a lot of them scream they are innocent....

Voted No, Just not worth the risk of sending a innocent man to his death.

Also it doesn't seem to work in the USA, they have the death penalty and also the highest number of incarcerated citzens.

I do believe that prisons should be harder and bring back the victoria era hard pointless work. But I feel that giving prisoner the ability to learn useful skills like building, mechanical trades etc woud be of benefit.

But hey apparently once brexit happens we will all become jobless and criminals.

More death penalty brain storming ............
