Carpet fitter lays carpet and takes

In my experience, unless you arrange and pay extra trim any doors - carpet fitters fit grippers, lay the underlay and fit the carpet only!

Had some carpets fitted last year and a cupboard door got removed. Got some sandpaper from Wilco, job's a good 'un.

The other thing as well is that the garden was full of old carpet and cardboard tubes and I had to remove those as well. No car, so I gradually popped it into my general waste collection over the next several weeks.

when i had my carpets fitted hole 4 bed house made sure i asked the question was it in the price guy said yes.But come fitting the chips that came to do the job tryed to fob me off lol saying it was my issue to plane.Replied with well i ring your boss and tell him to knock off the £250 the build would have charged for doing it.The chimp soon backed down and planed the doors.

so always ask when you buy as most fitters will just not do it me thinks

Now, this sort of grinds my gears.

Home insurance is there to cover unexpected disasters, it really shouldn't be expected to cover your ****ups! Why should all the other premium payers cover the cost of your **** ups.??

Me, I would have just sucked it up. I would never contemplate making an insurance claim under these sorts of circumstance unless I really had no economic option (Like say, burning the house down)

Are you serious?

It's called "Accidental Damage" and you pay extra for the cover. ALL insurance claims are paid for by "other premium payers" in conjunction with the premium you have paid and your excess. Do you understand how insurance works?

This is one of the most ill-informed and quite frankly laughable comments about insurance I have seen and believe me there have been A LOT.

Also if you have insurance and don't claim for an insurable event, well more fool you.

OP - Not down to the carpet fitter unless agreed with them first.

Well I didn't have much option as the water was ******* out the pipe and when I tried calling my usual local plumber he was on holiday somewhere abroad. It's not just about the cost, it's about actually getting a tradesman out to fix the problem which the insurance was there to do.

If you have the knowledge how to drain down a system and splice into a pipe then yes, why not?

I'm more interested to know why the trained plumber did not re-add inhibitor to the system before refilling it! At least I managed to do that myself so I'm not completely useless.

Carpet fitters have it made.

We recently had a new bedroom carpet fitted. We were told to clear the room and remove the old carpet before they arrived. Once fitted they didn't take any left over carpet with them and they didnt hover the new carpet either.

The job took them 20 mins for the pricey sum of £65 - That's around £1k pro-rota day rate.

I'm in the wrong job !!!

People who view jobs like this are delusional. Trade work doesn't work like stacking shelves in asda.

You don't try and calculate hourly rates when it comes to jobs that take a small amount of time.

65 quid to have a carpet fitted isn't insane.

Accidental damage cover is an optional extra. At a guess, it will be the premiums of fellow accidental damage coverers who pay the premium hike for such claims.

Not only is accidental damage cover an optional extra, but it would be a clear how and why there was a leak, if he didn't have accidental damage cover they'd come out and stick him with the charge.

The entire cost structure of insurance is based on a certain amount of people actually claiming. The only time people are screwing with your potential premiums is when people cause a problem but can manage to pass it off as not their fault, putting a tack through a pipe isn't going to be mistaken for anything but the owners fault though.

you say they? was there more than one of them?

He also had to drive to and from your house, load the van, get rid of waste etc

When I used to be a plumber you would get some annoying customers who would try and break down your price into an hourly rate. To the point some of them were thinking 80 quid to fit a bathroom suite seemed reasonable.

Regarding the fitters, if they work for a big chain they get a percentage of the price the customer pays. In return for this they get a steady flow of work. Otherwise they work independently but then struggle to get enough work to "have it made".

not to mention insurance for working, insurance for the van, insurance for his employee, payments for advertising, payments for an accountant, van payments, tax, mot, wear and tear on the van, petrol, fresh blades (they get through them quickly) and all the other bits they may need.
