Home insurance is there to cover unexpected disasters, it really shouldn't be expected to cover your ****ups! Why should all the other premium payers cover the cost of your **** ups.??
Me, I would have just sucked it up. I would never contemplate making an insurance claim under these sorts of circumstance unless I really had no economic option (Like say, burning the house down)

The job took them 20 mins for the pricey sum of £65 - That's around £1k pro-rota day rate.

Accidental damage cover is an optional extra. At a guess, it will be the premiums of fellow accidental damage coverers who pay the premium hike for such claims.
Carpet fitters have it made.
We recently had a new bedroom carpet fitted. We were told to clear the room and remove the old carpet before they arrived. Once fitted they didn't take any left over carpet with them and they didnt hover the new carpet either.
