Your thoughts

After a car accident I lost my phone for over 4 months while they did whatever they do to prove I wasn't using a phone or had deleted anything to hide if I had been on the phone. I'm sure they also took all the x rated photos off my phone of the young lady that worked in the stores department at work. I actually figure that had more to do with the time it took to get my phone back.

seems a bit inefficient - I mean providing they have access to the phone presumably all they need do is take an image of it using whatever official evidence gathering software/hard wear they use then hand it back

they can then check messaging apps, calls etc.. and contact the network to check on SMS activity, calls etc.. too

Nope. S19 PACE.

Wow. Just looked that one up.

The power to confiscate any camera, or other recording equipment, from anyone, in any place, even if that person is an innocent bystander.

And potentially to hold on to it for months. During which time the (potentially innocent bystander) has to find a replacement or go without.

Nice.

e: LOL, and if they want to keep it, they can demand that you prove it belongs to you, in which case you have to produce receipts to get your stuff back :/

without details how can anyone but speculate ?

sounds like a drugs case texts or calls through phone.but without real details what would you achieve from posting ?

they have the phone say nothing lose phone cheaper than lawyers ? :p

I'm not one to give my pin out to anyone but if the police seized my phone for whatever reason and I know I'm innocent I wouldn't hesitate. Anything to speed up the process. If you're innocent you have nothing to hide.

And those mentioning the police tried to "steal" her phone or the money. Seriously?

As mentioned. They're not stealing. If it is potentially relative to a crime they have the rights to seize it. They're just doing their job.

Innocent doesn't mean nothing to hide though does it.

Innocent of this crime(whatever it is) doesn't mean there aren't potentially photos/texts you wouldn't like anyone else seeing.

You missed my point. I said I don't give my pin out. This is because I have texts and what have you I don't want others to see.

BUT if the police seized my phone and asked for the pin number and I knew I was innocent and it would be the difference of weeks to months in me getting my phone back and on with my life. Then of course I would give it to them.

Funny how people give it all the "the police can do one" attitude. But when you're potentially facing serious charges and proving your innocence involves you giving up your pin. People soon change :p

Well by that logic, if it helps the Police, then they should have unrestricted backdoors to all our data and devices. Facebook, your Windows PC, you bank accounts, everything.

All in the cause of "proving your innocence" and "speeding things along".

Whatever happened to the time when the Police had to prove your *guilt*, instead of having to give the police all your data to prove to them your *innocence*?

Funny world it is when people are so accepting of these new norms.
