This is a secondary rig, not my main one.

Currently has a Samsung 850 240GB as boot drive but am needing more space for games.

Budget is £100 or less.

Thanks.

The HyperX is going to smoke the WD for performance. I stuck a large mechanical HDD in my main system to make more room for games but just end up spending time shuffling them about from the HDD to SSD :S

That I fear is what I would do :p

Just not sure how noticeable the performance gap would be.

My WD Black is plenty fast enough for games

"Plenty fast enough" meaning "gets the job done well" or "Its OK"?

What about hybrid SSHD drives?

Hybrids are ok for booting an OS from (halves the load times for Windows over a regular HDD) and regularly used applications but very mixed story for games - IIRC I clocked something like an average 30% quicker game load times with the hybrid SSD caching enabled on my laptop while the same games on an SSD were more like 300% faster loading.

I would say a HDD "gets the job done" but I see a significant difference in many cases between the same game on my Seagate HDD and one of the 2 SSDs in my sig.

I have to agree.

So on the whole, get the HyperX 480GB for £100?

Is only for games so "not as fast" as the 850 is not an issue neither is reliability as it is only a secondary drive.

In realworld use I don't really notice any difference between my 840 EVO and the HyperX 3K in my system.
