Homeless - of no fixed abode.

It is my fifth night homeless. I say homeless, I have shelter - that of a cheap hotel - but it's proving difficult to secure fixed accommodation. By principle I will not consent to intrusive checks, provide my NI number or tell a stranger my annual income, even my name is non of anyone's business - what a mess this is - this is all before forking out unrealistic rent prices.

Another thing I've noticed is that the gender of those in house shares is 99% male. Why is there a disproportionate number of males renting alone to females? If a society is generally a 50:50 gender split, isn't this strange? I think it is strange, but I can't explain it. All I know is that I am another 'single male' fending for themselves, another statistic.

Not really sure what to do now. I've just turned 31, no family, no friends or ties of any kind, I am a civil engineer by education and trade - out of contract currently so, 'unemployed'. To my name I have a £1500 car, a car full of belongings and about £24000 in the bank.

Can anyone offer some pointers, words of wisdom or general noise to give me advice or inspiration? I am very much directionless at this point.

I like these strange threads! :D

I know of only 2-3 people who find this a problem, drug dealers, criminals and illegal immigrants.

All accommodation requires some form of ID, all jobs require NI numbers and as you are not willing to provide either you fall into one of the above categories.

At 31 with £24k in the bank is also suspicious. No family or friends means you have burnt some bridges to get in the position you are in today.

The disproportionate number of males in house share is down to the fact the ex's usually get the roof and kids. :(

Have you tried going legit, in can help a little with your current predicament!

£24k in the bank and you say you're homeless?

Jog on pal.

^ This. You're homeless by your own accord.

If you actually have £24k in the bank, then you're much better off than many people nowadays - think yourself lucky. You could get yourself a mortgage on a nice house for that money!

How did you get a bank account without telling them your name and NI number to start with!

Surprising you agreed to tell them that - stash it all in a mattress before your bank manager runs away with your savings ...

Grow up and sort out your problem with socialising then get on with life!

The account is in the name of Rvd Pseudonym McNomdeplume. Identity checks ain't what they used to be Jack.

I know some people that would buy or book things online with fake names, date of birth etc screaming that everyone is out there just scam them.

No sane person would rent OP a room without at least asking for some ID and name.

Dilbert, from this post, your deleted employment issue thread, your history of deleting your own posts, the one you told me to leave the forums on and the others I have seen, you clearly have some issues. Go to a GP and ask to be referred to a psychiatric practitioner.
