For the last few years i have been buying THESE Akasa Super thin cables they look great in the case but i'm begining to wonder on their quality I have had nothing but issues with my system so i'm going to bin what i have and look for normal cables.

So what do folk suggest as a quality cable, i need about 12-13 of them so it on't be cheap i know but i need to buy a decent make, most will be about 50cm, but some will be shorter, any suggestions are welcome.

If you have several SATA cables and all of them are causing problems I don't think it's the SATA cables it's most likely the HD or motherboard IDE/SATA controller at fault, or maybe memory. Do a HD check on your hard drives on another computer. Then use those suspect SATA cables. if it's still ok on the other computer, then something is up with the first computer.

Trust me guys i have done all the changing over the last 3 months and changing from ultra-thin to just run of the mill sata cables solves all my issues, no matter if i'm running from an SSD or a HDD or even the DVD burner there are problems, to give you an example booting from DVD using Acronis True Images (ATI) it boots ok into ATI, however when you try to copy from one drive to another it fails, yes the DVD is fine, i then run physical disc check and all is fine with all SSD's move different ports on computer and still then same when using the same cable, but when switched it's fine, moved to other PC's and it makes their system either fail to boot or takes 4-5 minutes to boot there drives are visible for a few mins then disappear, bought new HDD and still have issues, even bought a SATA host adapter and ran with these cable and getting same problems.
It's not every single cable to start with i'm guessing hey last about 18-24 months before drives start playing up, I bought a complete new set about 18 months ago and already on the road to replacing them as i bought a few from here the other day along with another WD Black, have ran WD software and drives come back fine so does Samsung SSD's, along with the Micron SSD, however when i change the SATA cables things get better, I am able to write to any disk when using ATI, no boot issues, no 4 min boot up times, no disappearing drives all that BS is gone, the only problem i have is the SATA (thick) cable i have here right now are SATA 2 so need to upgrade to sata 3 and see if i get any problems then.

if you think i have missed something then let me know but i think i have done everything bar put a brick in it.

Not saying this will stop the problems you have, but i use these sata cables.

My basket at Overclockers UK:

Total: £8.47
(includes shipping: £3.48)

I found that all the cables with the metal clips would not fasten to my drives properly and was realy loose fitting. These fit perfect and a no movement at all.

Not sure if they are any better than the generic ones you get with a motherboard, but they do look good. :)

Have built 100s of pc's over the last 15 years and always used the cheapest sata cables I can find.. Probably used 1000+ sata cables only had 1 issue down to a sata cable, and that was an obvious ill fitting cable. The sata cable is so far down the list of suspect faulty items I don't remember ever changing one to try and fix a fault (other than unplugging drives to see if they are faulty)

Though for the price if you really think it's the cable id buy the cheapest cable OcUK sell

It might be a power supply fault
My experience with 7 sata hard drives using good quality splitters on a single cable from the PSU
and another 7 off a different cable
Was causing 3 of the 14 drives to disconnect wille in load
The problem has started 4 months after the build was done
i have only found 4 faulty sata cables ever

Cables are braided, so no writing is showing.

As edscdk said though, you would probably be best trying the cheapest cables first as the problem may lie elsewhere.

Its not me who has the problem i was just looking for tighter fitting sata cables as the ones with latches move too much.

Ha. Thought i was responding to the OP, sorry about that. :p

Not sure what the problem was with my latched cables (different brand cables, different drives). They just would not lock in and was very loose.

From personal use, i can recomend the Silverstone cables. They fit tight on the drives and feel like a solid connection.
