Gonna order some of the WD40 chain cleaner you lot raved on about, and some more chain lube - anyone using the WD40 chain wax vs the lube? meant to be better for wet conditions, now winter is here I may switch over to wax.

I'd never use wax during winter again. I did a few years ago and it nearly ruined my chain.

A group of us were considering trying to squeeze in a last long weekend to the Peak District in the first week of December, but the weather this week and weekend has dimmed our hopes. So I've booked her in for a full steam clean and ACF 50 treatment next weekend, strap on a new set of tyres at the same time, and I think that's pretty much me done for the year. They've salted the roads a couple of times this week and that's always my sign to lay her up for the winter and start studying maps of Europe ready for next year :)

I've been using the wax for the last 6 months or so and it seems good so far, no fling and plenty of sticking power.

Corr, that would be grim up there going by the current weather! The only way to get decent riding weather now is to go south, a long way south. Like south of Spain south!

Cheers, think I'll give it a go, the lube tends to get washed off a little too quick in the rain.

Yeah, the UK weather is just too unpredictable now, and I've definitely exhausted all possibilities of any more Euro bike trips this year!

I was taking it easy on my commute this morning doing about 50 on a NSL A road as there wasn't the merest sniff of grit anywhere to be seen and there was definitely a little sliding.

Some boob obviously had so much of an issue with this that he needed to overtake on double whites on a blind bend to go and sit up the arse of the car not that far in front of me. I got a real sense of satisfaction as I filtered past giving him the finger about 15 seconds later :D

It wouldn't have bothered me if he'd done it somewhere sensible or actually made decent time ahead of me.

I also need to have a chat with the boss very soon about WFH when the weathers bad, can't afford to total the bike or over £100 a week for the train. We'll see how that goes!

Problem is an IQ test isnt required as part of a licence ;)

First commute in since the roads have been gritted.... and I lost the back 3 times :o :D

Once when accelerating too fast, once when engine breaking too much, and the final time some **** pulled out of me on a roadabout, so I rev bombed him and slipped the clutch too fast. This saw a major wobble, so I rode off quickly in shame :o.

I'll start being more gentle with pulling off and stopping now :p.

I've thought about bringing my YBR out of retirement for the winter, but I'm not sure I can go back to the torture of a 125 :(

I've put my bike away for now to keep it away from the salt on the roads.
Don't see the point in risking it either when I have a nice warm car to use.

It would be worth it for the filtering?

Not enough filtering on my commute to make a great deal of difference to be honest, I filter normally just because I can and it means I normally get some empty road to BRAPPPP down :o rather than because it saves me any real time.

Showing that insurance quotes are plucked from the air, my insurance is up in the next few weeks. So I've been running quotes on renewal sites daily, hoping I'd get something reasonable.

Having a full lose due to theft, no NCD, and a full license less than a year. All my fully comp quotes have been £1100+.

I tried again today, not changing any details, and suddenly a lot of them are now sitting around the £750 line. That's a huge difference over 3 days with no changes in circumstances.

I'll give a few a call to see if I can knock it down further.

Rode to Burton Dassett today. Roads were a bit nasty & slippy here, but was a really good ride. There's a lot to be said about riding a beat up older bike, just feels a lot more free in terms of taking it a bit off road, parking it anywhere without worrying etc.

Also used my mitt gloves that I was given a while back. They're so much better than my £60 winter gloves & they're only £30 on SBS . More feel & more warmth.

Oh and I found out my low fuel light no longer works lol. Cut out as I headed out, got me worried as I was long enough away to make pushing take up a huge amount of my day & I'd been fiddling with stuff yesterday, so thought I might have broken something. Reserve got me to petrol station though :D
