A halt in my gaming

Got burgled a few weeks ago and it's put a halt to my involvement in the masterrace.

Not too much was taken thankfully, some furniture was damaged and the place was a bit of a mess but thankfully nobody was hurt and the family was out at the time.

The saddest part about the whole thing was that they took my PC but also my new ITX build I just completed (got the parts from right here in the members market!) to take to my girlfriends house to enjoy some CSGO while she is at work.

But on the bright side it has given me chance to complete some unfinished games on my DS!

Just a message of encouragement to everyone that even though times may be bleak, the masterrace is never truly gone once it's in your blood. I'm still enjoying watching the CS tournaments on Twitch and I know as soon as Christmas is out the way, I'll be on my way back to the CounterStrike and PCMR community.

That sux, at least counterstrike wont take a beast of a rig so you can get back into some gaming fairly cheap if thats your main game.

Yeah man, just gutted as I had the ITX built all ready to take over to my girlfriends house the week before but just forgot to chuck it in the car when I went over hers.

How did they get in?? Being burgled is one of my top 5 fears, not because of losing my pc but incase they steal my dog!

Someone broke into a home and took a PC from a gamer/enthusiast, as well as a new build but not much else taken.

Makes you wonder who it can be, chances are that you have met them or at least know an acquaintance of theirs. Maybe your name was mentioned as a game by a friend to them, a bit of scoping from the street and Facebook to see what you have to offer and how easy it would be.

A scary thought, not sure which would be scarier, a planned burglary by someone who has seen you before or an opportunist who saw no one was in.

Unlucky bud. On the plus side, we might see the dollar tank and it wont cost that much to get back into the chair.

He said he built it from second hand parts, which means no invoices / proof of purchase for insurance purposes I assume

Well I don't have the invoices for my PC that I built 5 years ago but I'm pretty sure I could prove I owned it with pictures and could claim. No-one keeps every receipt for everything they own.

Maybe OP took pictures of the build...? Might be worth exploring?

He will have proof of purchase in forms of bank or paypal statements.

Just because something is second hand doesnt make it worthless to insure...

Pretty sure insurance companies don't need invoices or proof of purchases. They obviously ask and like them as they can record what's been taken in an official sense.

The insurers will obviously pay out on things that were never stolen/owned by the claimants. However it's on a risk/history based scheme.

E.g.

Person A claims for the 3rd time in two years they've been burgled. They will probably get visited by "an agent" and asked questions, place examined, police records requested, etc...

Person B claims for the 1st time they've been burgled and put in a claim for £21'000 of items being stolen. Same as above.

Person C claims for 1st time they've been burgled. They've been customer for 3 years and are not on any "black list". They claim £4000 worth of items gone... will probably just get paid out

I got "done " last year , the scum completely emptied my house 65inch tv off the wall , complete 5.1 system , kids christening money box's ,ipads etc everything !!

its forums like these that helped me as i had taken pictures of my stuff and i showed the insurance guy and he was fine .. one word of warning though if you have anything over £1.5k list it separate or they wont pay out .my projector was £6k and tv £3.2k , i got £1.5k for each :-(

If insured everything like this should be covered, I don't have receipt for everything and some of my stuff I payed cash for.

I live with the parents and I'd like them to upgrade the front and back doors, someone is always in and we live in a good area but fires and stealing vulters worry me, I was thinking of getting CCTV but I thought it might increase the interest.

How on earth did someone find the time to take a 65 inch TV off the wall without no one noticing and empty your house too!

I had someone try and get into my house a few years back, thankfully the house alarm went off and they legged it.

If neighbors don't know you that well quite often they don't even question it, I know mine fairly well so if something was happening I'd ask.

Did you not read the T's&C's when you purchased the insurance?

I believe most stipulate that expensive items must be defined in the policy.

How heavy was your PC OP, my case weighs a tonne (lots of hdds), and often wondered if anyone broke in to nick something whether they'd bother due to the weight of carrying it downstairs. I figure most thieves like to get in and grab small expensive items - laptops/tablets/jewellery/cash. Even a 65" LED TV these days are actually fairly light.
