Hi,
The power steering pump has gone on my Ford Focus 2001 without Air con. It is leaking fluid from the pump and steering is tough as obviously no power steering.

Can somebody please identify the make of the below please?

Been quoted £220 to fit a new one or an hours labour to fit a second hand one.

Looking on eBay and there are various ones on there for £70-80 but I've been told there are 3 different types and the key to it is this electrical connection?

Can anybody help please? It is a long shot however anything is better than nothing.

i'd contact your local ford parts department, give them your reg and ask them how much a power steering pump assembly is, then ask them to give you the part number, then take said part number, type it into ebay and you'll see anyone selling the right part number for your car

Yup

Get your VIN handy, sometimes they will need this to drill down to the correct model.

That's if they will give you the part number. Our local Vauxhall dealer refuses to give out part numbers.

Same. They are not allowed to give out part numbers.

I'll try other suggestions however euro car parts states 4 models and I can delete 2 as no air con. Still leaves 2.

That pipe looks very corroded, are you sure that isn't where the leaks are coming from.

It is possible. I'm going to get it in the air and have a look. Pipes are Ford only bits so expensive however if the pipe has gone I can maybe clean it and use chemical metal or something. I put the part number ECP gives you but still £100+ on eBay.

Failing that I might just buy another car and scrap this.

Well the pipe is a feed pipe (I think as it would be pressurised metal one rather than rubber?) is quite a long one and is a Ford only part due to special fittings - snip at £212!

Add that to a £200 pump.... a pattern one if £100+.

Had a look today but difficult to see due to everything being wet due to the rain. Will look tomorrow and dry it all down with a cloth then start the car to get it to drip out.

I wonder how much Pirtek would charge to make a pipe up for you?

(Take the old pipe off and take it to them, they might replace with a flexible pipe with suitable connectors at each end rather than a solid pipe, but I am sure it would be possible to work out a routing solution)

Cheers for the heads up.

Do you know if the 1.4l and the 1.6l petrol pumps are the same one? Obviously the diesel will be a different one.

I had a look of ECP and it appears there is only one which would fit your year and without A/C - 619590210 . If you put that into CP4Less and use a discount code it becomes £125 which is good for a Remy part.

That PAS pipe does seem quite wet, but tbh the whole area seems quite wet so there has probably been an oil leak at some point.

If you've lost power steering, it's surely going to be the pump. If you were just losing PAS fluid then yeh it could be the pipe, but if the steering has become difficult to move the pump must have a fault.

I would also check you can unscrew all them very rusty pump bolts without any of them snapping..
If any snap it could be an engine out job to drill out & retap

I Had to replace the metal pipe to the steering pump on my works 1999 ford ranger earlier this year due to it leaking

Doubt it. IME these type of bolts normally rust badly on the head but come out in relatively good condition. A good impact tool will get that out, and if not a bit of heat should do the trick. They're not torqued up massively either, probably only about 30Nm or so.

Even if it did shear, there looks to be masses of space to work in front of that PAS pump so drilling doesn't look too griefy either.

*hopefully* a cheaper fix than I thought.

Jacked it up this morning, went underneath, wiped the wet pipes down. They were dirty but dry. Then started the car and went underneath again with a torch. Spotted it dripping from the power steering pressure sensor. Constant drip, drip, drip. Obviously when I use power steering pressure forces more out so in a couple of miles it's all come out again.

New sensor is Ford only and waste of time buying a second hand one as may not work, waste of time on eBay as there are 4 different types only identifiable by a number when you take it off and they are all £15+ anyway. However all 4 retail at £52. So lot better than the other option. Hope it fixes it.
