North / South divide - your view

The south makes the money and redistributes it to the north. We don't mind because we get to live in the south, which is obviously much nicer.

I know southern drivers don't need to pass a test to go on the roads (:D I went there). Far less busy up north and nice to be able to own a fair sized house for normal money.

I think the northerners care about it the southerners don't tend to mention it

Ohhh they do. Just last night down in Wembley , quite a few fairy friends poking fun "this is how the other half live mate", "you must be boiling down here, it's grim up norf!", "do you need help using that knife and fork?", etc :p

Of course it's harmless fun for us, I think some people really have genuine disdain though. Silly.... Mind you, cackneys yuck!!

My best mate is from Stockport and anytime I reference something he's said I do it in a Bez accent despite him speaking well (other than a blind pot to words like bath and grass. ) I've been doing it for 30 years and still find it amusing.

There is no 'R' in 'Bath'!

Southerners are blighted by Essex. Gives them a bad rep. Northerners are blighted by Geordies. Seriously, who wears a T-Shirt in winter? :D

Work hard in the north = get nothing for your troubles.

Work hard in the south = get nothing for your troubles, but your house is now worth 300% what you have paid for it.

Northerner here who has lived down south for 18 years now. The North/South divide exists but it's a bit of misnomer - imo it's a Home Counties/Rest of England split. I don't really see much of a difference in people's attitudes between places like the south coast, anywhere in the north or places in the west country. Those places are all England to me, in the London commuter areas it's a lot different, it's like any where that isn't London doesn't matter. I mean, take the recent decision whether to expand Heathrow or Gatwick - they even considered a new hub airport anywhere else in the country.
