How much is too much (Alcohol)

Quite surprised how much people drink on a regular basis. Usually during the week I don't drink at all, although might have a beer or two. Usually have one night a week where I drink a bit more.

Winter is a slightly different case as it's a lot more social so I probably have 2/3 reasonably big nights a week. I do exercise though and eat well.

Currently off it completely though as I've had chronic acid reflux for months now so trying anything and everything.

Part of my issue is I don't suffer hangovers, despite being 32 it hasn't caught up with me. I don't drink routinely. As an example, January-June this year I didn't drink at all as I was training quite intensely for a competition. I started after it was over though.

There are triggers for me. A Friday night and Saturday particularly asit's the weekend, and I love football so that goes hand in hand.

Sunday-Thursday I never drink. Sometimes I won't drink for 1-2 weeks.

I have periods though when I go a bit mad. Like this week. I'm off all week from work as I had extra leave to take.

Friday after work @5pm I started drinking
Saturday around 2pm I started drinking
Sunday around 2pm I started drinking

Probably had around 15 bottles of lager each night. I know that's stupidly excessive and is a dangerous amount.

I was in a bit of a daze during this time (not just drunk), but even when sobering up each day, and on the Monday it was like I was half there. The weekend was just a blur. I definitely DO NOT enjoy it when I drink this amount.

My problem is that I often think of it as a waste if I'm off the next day, and I don't drink, particularly if I have the hosue to msyelf and there is a football match on.

I love going for a good drink at the club, I was out Sunday night and had about 8 or 9 pints. I might be going out to a Sam Smiths pub tonight and will probably sink the same amount of pints. I wouldn't say I was an alcoholic as I haven't drank since Sunday. :)

The real answer to is this a drink problem or not can be summed up in two questions:

1. Why do you drink?
2. Do you 'have' to drink?

Answer those two questions honestly and then have a real good think about your answers. Short term see if you can give up for a month without falling to bits!

A 70cl bottle of 40% whisky is pretty much exactly the same as 10 pints of 5% lager a week,

5 pints on a weekend night is hardly an issue and neither would I say is adding the same one night a week if you played for a pool team or something.

I used to drink decent amounts at the weekend...much more than this. It was the norm for me..all my mates got hammered all weekend.

Eventually I cut back to having 6 cans of 500ml 5% lager every Saturday night. Now I'm going to have to give that up I think as it's causing me to snore like mad :(

I drink because I really enjoy listening to music, watching films/football and gaming when I've had a drink..simples.

I'd say that puts it firmly in you having or developing an unhealthy reliance on it along with being able to function almost normally after half a bottle.

Then again it's no worse than a large proportion of the world get up to and if you happy and healthy otherwise.

Agreed.
If you can't go without then it's a problem.

I have the odd cider in the evening but I can easily go without. I'd say I have 3 or 4 ciders a week.

This. If I drink a couple of pints I feel a lot better than if I drink 2 pints of diet coke

That stuff knackers your insides up and is addictive as hell.

Don't get me wrong, I love a can of cold diet coke and a few years back did get addicted to it and had 2 cans a day at work for almost 6 months! I felt so much better when I stopped drinking it. It did take a while though, down to 1 can a day then 3 a week then 1 a week, then 1 a month or something. Way more addictive than beer / other alcohol or even drugs!

Come to think of it, diet coke is the only thing I have ever been properly addicted to

Can't tell whether this is a troll post or just another typical day in GD...

If you are drinking half a bottle a time that means 35cl of spirit, with 3.15L of diet coke. Sounds quite a lot to be putting away on a weeknight, I'm just talking volume of fluid rather than alcohol.

I probably drink similar volumes of alcohol but spread out more over the week and different types of drink. I can happily go without drinking but I find myself using sport on TV as an 'excuse' i.e. when watching my team/country play I'll usually get tanked up. Also tend to stock up on booze when it is on offer despite the fact it isn't an essential good.

I am beginning to think I'm drinking too much on the weekends. Every weekend for roughly three years I have had a skinful on Friday and Saturday nights whether it be going out or staying in which was never a problem, but the last few months its started to hit me more, I'm passing out asleep quicker, sleeping later and feeling worse the next day.

Has been about 12 pints a night, or on some nights a full bottle of JD or sailor jerry or something.

Monday rolls round and I wonder where the weekend has went.

Even when I have Fridays off my first instinct is to go get Bev for the evening so I think this weekend I will try and cut it out or massively cut it down and go from there.

I just had a week off the sauce... by the end of it I felt mentally 'fresh' and didn't even fancy indulging on Friday after work drinks... even though that was my initial intention. Clearly not great for you to drink most days, physically or perhaps otherwise.

That said I did have a few yesterday :p
