The Empathy Quotient (EQ) is a 60-item questionnaire (there is also a shorter, 40-item version) designed to measure empathy in adults. The test was developed by Simon Baron-Cohen at ARC (the Autism Research Centre) at the University of Cambridge.

Clinically, the empathy measurements provided by the EQ are used by mental health professionals in assessing the level of social impairment in certain disorders like Autism. However, since levels of empathy vary significantly between individuals, even between those without any mental health disorders, it is also suitable for use as a casual measure of temperamental empathy by and for the general population.

Below is a list of statements. Please read each statement carefully and rate how strongly you agree or disagree with it by selecting the circle under your answer. There are no right or wrong answers, or trick questions.

I only got 18/80 :(

Having a low score is nothing to be proud of, the less empathy you have, the more like a psychopath you are, and psychopaths are sub-human.

and can also be very successful business people

Edit: I scored 15, answering honestly. Certainly don't think I have Autism or Asperger's though. Stupid test.

Then again I like being around people and feel that I am naturally quite empathetic and sensitive to others. But I'm surprised my score is so low, I thought it would have been higher! Maybe I was too moderate in some of my answers instead of "strongly" agreeing/disagreeing.

I'd guess you were, I scored 50 and I would have said I was a bit on the 'cold' side when it comes to this sort of thing.

42 here and think the same. I cried at Mrs Doubtfire!

40 but i'm weird I imagine it's my willful stubbornness that lowers my score.

I'm not nervous about roller coasters but they make me very sick :D I go a colour of white that you wouldn't think possible :D
